Hi there,

I have installed two printers on my families computer, one is a photo printer, and the other is to be used just for black & document printing - to make life easier for my family members, i want to know if there is any way i can set the canon printer to always be the default printer for microsoft word & excel, and the HP printer to always be default for Photoshop & Picasa.

I have told them how to easily change the default printer for each program, but if there is a way to do what I am thinking, then that would be great.

Is this even possible?

Thanks

Hello,

I'm not entirely sure that it can be done. You could try using two different user accounts.
Regards,

Alan.

I have a dot-matrix, a laser, and a picture printer hooked up to a 4 port switch. I also found this shareware program PrintSwitch for $12.95. It does what you want, but I'm not sure how much easier than just changing the default like you showed them

I've been looking for this type of program also - and cannot find it. At my wife's office they have a label printer for prescriptions. The prescription label program requires that the label printer be the default. But if they want to print a Word document and forget to switch - the label printer spews out tons of labels until they can stop it. My "fix" is to disable all programs except for the prescription one - that way they can't print anything off of that system except for prescription labels.

Thanks for the replies guys, apart from the portswitch program, I didn't there would be an easy automatic solution to this question.

The only program I know of, that remembers the default printer & the exact setting you used (ie paper size or best quality) is picasa, even if the settings are different in the control panel for that printer, obviulsy the programmers of picasa made this possible?

Maybe some progammer who is reading this, could try and create such a software? freeware as well!
