Hey all, I'm between and rock and a hard place. First I posted to the wrong forum and my message got moved with some corrections on what I nneded to do to post here correctly. I attempted to do those actions in order, but when I got to the adaware load and scan, my computer crashes. So, I am supposed to get it to run before I post here, but it won't

I'm new to this forum and not all that great with computers. I have had some problems with my computer over the last couple of months. It involves getting an error that basically involves iexplore.exe.mdmp. Here is the last one.

C:\DOCUME~1\J\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERc142.dir00\iexplore.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\J\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERc142.dir00\appcompat.txt

I looked online and have found all kinds of advice for fixing this, but most of it may as well be in binary or ancient Greek. So, can anyone help? I went to hijackthis and loaded it. Here is the result of the scan.

Any help would be appreciated. Also, I can only intermittantly download an attachment from yahoo mail. Not sure if this is related or not. Basically, when I click the download button, the "normal" window pops up, but there is no time listed and it doesn't download anything. Well, if they are related great, if not, then one at a time, I guess.

Hope, I'm not doing anything incorrect. I just want to get the issue fixed.

Thanks,
Jason

Hey guys, please note that I could never get Adaware to run. This is step four of the 7 (?) step process that one is supposed to do BEFORE posting here. Here are my notes:

- Create a free account
Done
- Enable topic reply notification by default.
Done
- Clean out your temporary internet files and temp files.
Done
- Scan your computer with Ad-Aware and Spybot - Search and Destroy

Download Ad-aware SE
Done

and update it (the Globe icon, then Connect).
Could not update. Says that it is updated with today’s date, but then says it needs to update. Gives this error.

szAppName : aawservice.exe szAppVer : 7.0.2.7 szModName : ntdll.dll
szModVer : 5.1.2600.2180 offset : 00011e58

C:\DOCUME~1\J\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERb8c6.dir00\aawservice.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\J\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERb8c6.dir00\appcompat.txt

Finally, it is updated after several lock ups.

Then click on Perform Full System Scan. Uncheck Search for negligible risk entries and click on Next.
I can find the Perform Full System scan, but not the “Search for negligible risk entries” section.

However, whenever I run the full system scan, it goes about 45 seconds before it crashes my system taking me to the “blue screen of death”. It happens every time I run the scan. (So, far about 6 times today.) It gets past the “inproc server32” section to the “preparing GUID scanning” under “scanning registry section...and then hits the skids.

Just wanted to let you know. I could never get through the adaware scan. But I wasn't supposed to post again to the misplaced forum. Let me know what you'd like for me to do. Thanks, again.

Jason

Any help would be appreciated. Also, I can only intermittantly download an attachment from yahoo mail. Not sure if this is related or not. Basically, when I click the download button, the "normal" window pops up, but there is no time listed and it doesn't download anything. Well, if they are related great, if not, then one at a time, I guess.

Hope, I'm not doing anything incorrect. I just want to get the issue fixed.

Thanks,
Jason

/mod edit ~ Jason - I moved your log into this post. Good luck - You are in good hands! ...rigel

SECOND POST

Jason

NEWEST POST

So, basically, I could never get all of the way through the steps for this link

Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log

I’m basically in the same boat as above, except now, I can’t get my Norton to do the protection updates.

Hello there and welcome to BC!

I see a clean log here, there are no signs of malware or anything that may cause the error problems you are having. I recommend that you post your question in the following forum as you will recieve better help there. Let them know you have had your Hijackthis log checked, and it isn't a serious security issue.
Windows XP Home and Professional

Have you had a look at the following thread for fixes for the problem?
http://forums.maddoktor2.com/index.php?showtopic=1996

On a side note, there a few lines in the HJT log we can clean, they're leftovers.
Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://s-redirect.com/?a=2&b=n-ex
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://s-redirect.com/?a=2&b=n-ex
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://s-redirect.com/?a=2&b=n-ex
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://s-redirect.com/?a=2&b=n-ex
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://s-redirect.com/?a=2&b=n-ex
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,SearchURL = http://s-redirect.com/?a=2&b=n-ex

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

There are some more possible fixes here:
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-4138.php

This problem is not caused by malware, so it is better to post to the XP experts. Good luck!
