Hello, I hope this is the correct forum this time. Sorry.

Hello,

I know this has been covered before but I recently noticed my PC being very slow and IE and other things just simply shutting down. Yesterday I noticed that everyday the first hits under my history are a.doginhipen, b.skittodayplease and 88.80.7.66. After doing some digging I am aware this is some kind of malware.
I have downloaded Hijackthis and AWF and below are my logs. If anyone can help me get rid of this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

AB

ADDENDUM:

Ok Iv'e been working at this thing pretty much all day and getting nowhere. Idid get Trojan Remover to detect it and it said it was removed but when I rebooted and started IE again the hits are still there under the history. So I am pretty sure I am still infected. Im pretty frustrated. Any help would be great.

Hi,

Please uninstall AdwareAlert since this is a scanner with a questionable reputation.

Then,

I see you are running Teatimer.
I suggest you to disable it because it can interfere with the changes you'll make on your system.
When everything is done and your log is clean again, you can enable it again.
If teatimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.
How to disable TeaTimer <== click me for instructions.
After you disabled Teatimer, download ResetTeaTimer.bat to your desktop. (In case you use Firefox, rightclick the link and choose "save as").
Doubleclick ResetTeaTimer.bat and let it run.
This will only take a few seconds.

Then, * Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\bak <== this folder

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming.net\PartyPokerNet\RunPF.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming.net\PartyPokerNet\RunPF.exe (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0

Miekiemos,

Did as you instructed yesterday and as of this afternoon, I have not seen anymore of doginhispen/skittoday etc in my history. I have 2 questions.

1.) Do you think it would be wise to create a restore point in XP now?

2.) I use an external HD for storage of music and documents etc, do you think it is ok to access the external drive?

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi,

To answer your questions, Combofix already created a new System restore point for you, but you can still add another one, just to be sure

And yes, you can access your external drive.

Glad I could help.

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!

I will definately check those preventions out. Is it possible to get infections from music files say like .rar album files from rapidshare? Just trying to figure out where I might have gotten it.

Thanks

Yes, that's possible, because anything can be present in a rar file. Btw, a music file is not a rar file. And I guess in your case, it was masked as a rarfile, but was actually an executable (exe file), because I know this malware spreads via so called rar files. (or looking like a rar file)
Always be careful what you download and where you download it.

Since I do not know if it was a music file that casued it is it safe to keep those files? I dont' keep the rar files but I do still have some actual mp3 files that came packaged as rar. I'm guessing I would have to run the rar. (extraction) to re-infect my PC and that any mp3s themselves would be ok to access say with itunes if they are in my music library.

Thanks again and sorry for all the questions.

If they have the mp3 extension, then they are OK.
