Just posting, as instructed, to introduce myself.

I'm a reasonably literate, longtime computer user (decades, not years) who's responsible from the family's 5 (yes 5) computers, so there's always at least one hardware problem, software problem, user error, infection or "mysterious force" going on.

At work I rely out our IT folks, but they won't even think -- much less do -- anything about home computers, even if we use them for work. "Not supported."

I solve 98% of the problems myself, just googling the problems when they arise, but this one has overwhelmed my limited knowledge and resources. Over the weekend, I stupidly turned off my antivirus software and forgot to turn it back on and...guess what. StimFraud plus a host of other garbage, which I'll post in the appropriate place....

I'm very impressed with what I've read at BleepingComputer, so I'll give it try. Maybe I can occasionally be of help to others. Meanwhile, Combofix, here I come...

Hello Tom and  to Bleeping Computer.

Be sure to check out the New User Orientation and the excellent Tutorials.

Personally, I wouldn't run Combofix unless instructed to do so by a malware removal expert.
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who haven't got it.
