I came to work and logged onto my computer to find the "Warning You're In Danger of Spyware" background. The computer was running extremely sluggish and there were many pop ups. I'm afraid I got eager to solve the problem and followed the instructions from another post on this website dealing with a similar issue. I now know this is a huge mistake on my part, and it won't happen again.

I used SDFix and Combofix. The problem seemed to be gone but when I tried to use my Task Manager, the funtion is grayed out and unaccessible. I also noticed when the computer starts up I see a flash of a command prompt screen that disappears quickly. The Task Manager button is also grayed out and disabled.

I'm currently running Windows XP Professional with Symantec Client Security. As I am typing this I just received a notification from Client Secuirty of Trojan.Vundo A0000037.dll Trojan Horse A0000092.exe

Any instruction would be greatly appreciated.

Here is my log:

Hello etemmick

# Step 1 #

You are currently using HijackThis from a temporary directory, this can cause problems.
HijackThis creates backups, these are needed in case of any recovery issues.

Please delete any copies of HijackThis you have saved.

Please download the self-extracting version of HijackThis from here:

HijackThis Installer Download

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.

Double-click the file then click the Install button.

The file will be extracted to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe
A shortcut for future use will also be created on your desktop.

# Step 2 #

Go to Start ╗ Run ╗ type: Notepad ╗ OK.
Copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text inside the code box below to Notepad. (Be sure to use Notepad, not Wordpad, otherwise it won't work).
@ECHO OFF
sc stop "System Event Dispatcher"
sc config "System Event Dispatcher" start= disabled
sc delete "System Event Dispatcher"
  • Click File at the top and then choose Save As.
  • Change Save As Type to All Files.
  • Name it fixsvc.bat and save it on your desktop.
  • Double click fixsvc.bat.
# Step 3 #
  • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan"box on the top of the page:
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\datuxchm.dll
  • Click on the submit button
  • Please post the results in your next reply.
  • Do the same tof this files:
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ojoxoxqx.exe
    • C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\SMBOLS~1\cmd.exe
  • If Jotti is to busy, please try on VitusTotal:
    http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html
# Step 4 #

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
Read first: "How to download and use ComboFix"
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall.

Extra-Note: Please, DO NOT use ComboFix on your own. It is a very powerful tool designed to deal with sophisticated infections and if something goes wrong or you use it incorrectly, you could possibly lose the use of your computer. It is ONLY meant to be used under the direct supervision of a malware removal specialist.

# Step 5 #

In your next reply please post:
  • The results from Jotti's or VirusTotal (step n║ 3)
  • The results from ComboFix (step n║ 4)
  • A new HijackThis log
Regards.
