Hello Wheel1 and welcome to the BC forums. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps.

Step #1

Download the following tools:AdAware SEFollow the directions here AdAware Tutorial to update and configure AdAware. Do not run it yet though.
Cwshredder.exe
DelDomains.zipUnzip the DelDomains.zip file to your desktop. We will be using DelDomains.inf file later in the fix.
Step #2

Start CWShredder and choose FIX.

Now run AdAware SE and do a complete scan. This may take some time. When the scan is complete, right-click on the area with the listing of items found and click on Select All and then click on the Next button to remove everything found. When you are finished close AdAware SE.

Step #3

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:* Restart the computer.
* As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
* Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
* Press Enter.
We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:* Open My Computer.
* Select the View menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View tab.
* In the Hidden files section select Show all files.
* Click OK.
Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\system\jmevd.dll/sp.html#28129
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\system\jmevd.dll/sp.html#28129
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\system\jmevd.dll/sp.html#28129
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\system\jmevd.dll/sp.html#28129
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: Class - {63E743F2-961A-BA40-C5DE-2004CB60063A} - C:\WINDOWS\ATLSH32.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [APPIR32.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\APPIR32.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ATLYV.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\ATLYV.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [APIBJ32.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\APIBJ32.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [WINAJ32.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINAJ32.EXE
O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.imgfarm.com/images/nocache/funwe...etup1.0.0.8.cab
O16 - DPF: {E0CE16CB-741C-4B24-8D04-A817856E07F4} (IObjSafety.DemoCtl) - http://cabs.media-motor.net/cabs/alien.cab
O16 - DPF: {15AD4789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/ClickYes...bridge-c356.cab
O18 - Protocol: icoo - {4A8DADD4-5A25-4D41-8599-CB7458766220} - C:\WINDOWS\MSOPT.DLL (file missing)

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Close HijcackThis. Locate the DelDomains.inf file on your desktop that we downloaded and unzipped earlier. Right-click on the icon and choose Install from the popup menu. Choose Yes or Ok when prompted.

Step #4

Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\system\jmevd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\ATLSH32.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\APPIR32.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\ATLYV.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\APIBJ32.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINAJ32.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\MSOPT.DLL (should be gone already but just verify and delete it if you find it)

While still in Safe mode follow these steps to clean out your temporary folders:

This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:

Step 1:Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then Run, and type %temp% and press the OK button.

This should open up the temp folder that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Do this same process for %windir%\temp.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to click Start then Settings then Control Panel. Double-click the Internet Options icon. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on. Click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here as a relpy to this topic and I will review it.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.

Also when I turn the computer on or off it comes up with a screen of white, green and gray stripes. Do you have any idea how to get rid of that?
Thanks.

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here as a relpy to this topic and I will review it.

I don't know what to tell you about your question about your screen display at startup and shutdown. Did this just start happening? Some graphics cards will disply various colors prior to being initialized and after windows shuts down but before the power is turned off. This is a common occurance. If your display has always done this then I would say that this is ok for the type of graphics card that you have in your system. If this is something that just started happening then give me as much detail as you can as to when this started happening. Was there any new hardware or software installed prior to this? Were there any problems just prior to this? I'll look in to that when your post comes back.

Also, I can't remember installing anything new at the time I first got the colored bars on the screen. Though it's been months, so I'm not really sure. The only new software that was about that time was a Pinnacle video editing software. I also installed a card that had composite video inputs and such on it, but subsequently took it out because my computer couldn't handle it. It said I would need a seperate harddrive.
Another problem I just started getting was an error message when I first start the computer. It says:

RUNDLL
Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\WILDTA~1 \APPS\CDA\CDAENG~1.DLL
The system cannot find the path specified.

Thanks again.

Hi wheel1. In your recent log it looks like we have a couple of items to fix to finish things up. It shows Weatherbug has a file missing for the toolbar button. Do you use this program or have you uninstalled it? Regarding WildTangent the log does not show that there is anything wrong with the file. If you use WildTangent do you have any problems with it? If so, we might want to reinstall that application.

For now, post back here and let me know if you are using Weatherbug and WildTangent. Also verify that these to directories/files are present:C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\WILDTANGENT\APPS\CDA\CDAENG~1.DLL (a dll file whose name begins with 'cdaeng')

Post back here and then we'll finish things up.

Cheers.

I had deleted weatherbug already and I didn't know what that wild tangent was so I just deleted it and took them both out of the hijack log. The error message is gone. Here is the new log.

Hey wheel1. Your log looks great. Congratulations! We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.

First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion.* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading UNSELECT Show hidden files and folders.
* CHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Next, let's clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore.Right-click My Computer and then click Properties.
On the Performance tab, click File System
On the Troubleshooting tab, click to select Disable System Restore
Click OK twice.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn on System Restore.Right-click My Computer and again click Properties
On the Performance tab, click File System
Clear the check mark in Disable System Restore check box.
System Restore will now be active again.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs: SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard and IESpy-Ad. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening.

You should also have a good firewall like ZoneAlarm or Kerio Personal Firewall (both are free) and a good anti-virus application like the one you are currently using. It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your system up to date and clean visit Windows Update monthly, run AdAware SE and Spybot Search & Destroy weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Have a safe and happy computing day!
