It was suggested I come over here for help, here is my post from "Am I infected"
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/135336/windows-live-messenger-contact-window-popup/

I am getting links from my daughter's and nephew's PCs through Windows Live Messenger, my daughter told me she got a similiar link about three weeks ago and she clicked on it, similiarly so did my nephew.

Initialy I tried cleaning my daughter's PC by myself using Cleanup 4.0, CCleaner, Spybot (in Safe Mode), Ad-Aware2007, Avg Antispyware (in Safe Mode) and Superantispyware in Safe Mode. I also ran sysclean and found no viruses.

I decided to seek help here and posted in the "Am I infected" board. I followed the suggestions given i.e. using MsnCleaner and SdFix and running sysclean each time.

I am still getting these popups.

Here is her Hijackthist list

Hi,

The forums are really busy, that explains why logs get behind. If you still need some help, please start with posting a new hijackthislog in this thread. Don't start with a new thread.
Then I'll take a look.

Regards,

Rosty.

Hi,

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan (Full scan is optional. According to the program's creator Quick Scan will do just fine.).
Click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

If Malware is found...
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
Please save it to your desktop.

NOTE: Logs can be retrieved at a later date from the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware main screen:

Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
Click the Logs tab.
Double-click log-mm.dd.yyyy [xxxxxx].txt.

In your next reply, please include:
-The log from Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
- A new HijackThis log

It looks good I left my computer on to see if I got any links from my daughter Pc and so far I got none.

I am still getting some from my nephew's computer but I will send him the link t this solution.

Thanks so much, the wait was worth it.

Ok something odd now. when this all started we would sse a window popup showing my daughter or nephew signing on, then another showing the link, then the last one showing the chat window and the link in it.

Now I am just getting the first window only, showing as IF they are signing on, this has occured once with my nephew's and once this morning with my daughter, in both instances they had not signed on to live messenger.

I will monitor it for a while.

If I'm reading this wright are you the person who received links from them? If that is the case then your daughters and nephews PC's are the baddies, not yours!

That is correct, it is there computers that are the baddies but fortunately I have access to my daighter's machine and I ran all the suggested cleaners on it.

I have sent the instructions to my nephew so he can clean his.

I will advise you of the results from his machine

I am still getting an initial popup showing my daughter signing on to msn but in all cases she hasn't. I am not getting any chat windows with the links from her anymore.

I will keep monitoring this.

Hi,
thanks for the log from your nephews PC.

Open HijackThis, click do a scan only and place a check next to the following entries:

Close all other windows and browsers, except HijackThis, and click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.

Please delete the following file using windows explorer:
[DIRECT!] C:\PROGRA~1\COURIO~1\IDENTI~1\direct.exe

It is also important to keep your Java updated as there is the possibility that some malware uses out of date Java installs to infect pc's. Test if your version is the latest here.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 5 .
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 5, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop (13.9 MB).
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u5-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Reboot and post a new HijackThis log.

Sadly I must tell you I am getting those links again from both my daughter's and nephew's computer, just like the original ones. This is really baffling.

Hi, can you please post the requested log?
I'm sure the problem is not your PC, but your daughters or nephews.
