I am currently having alot of trouble with Spyware. I have tmp files appearing in C:\Documents and Settings\Newlands\Local Settings\Temp which Norton detects as dialers and trojans. I have deleted the files repeatedly and followed Norton's suggestions (for Adware.CDT) as to how to remove the traces from the registry but that fails to work. I have also been having problems with Security iGuard installing itself on my computer. A third problem is that Slimshield constantly pops up in browsers (a spyware removal product). IT has also installed multiple htmls into my windows folder under various three character filenames randomly generated. I have tried repeatedly to also remove traces of this from my registry but despite deleting all the keys I could safely recognise as dangerous the problems remain. I have also run both Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. I would greatly appreciate any help that you could offer.

Hi Brenton,
This does'nt look good!

1. Download CCleaner and install it. (Please do not run the CCleaner utility yet.)

Download HSFix.zip
Create a new folder on your desktop and give it the name HSFix
UNZIP the content from HSFix.zip to the new folder HSFix

2.Start--> Control Panel--> Add or Remove Programs--> Uninstall (if found) any instances of:
Security iGuard (because this program is on the Spyware Warrior's rogue list.)

It's better to print out these instructions, because you have to delete a lot of files in safe mode and this page wouldn't be available then.

* Make sure all hidden files and folders are visible (Instructions )

3. Scan again with HijackThis and check the following items:

Above, you see a lot of .exe-files with 3 characters before the exe in your system32 and WINDOWS-folder.
Rightclick on one or two of those files and choose properties. You will see the size of it (most probably 8kb and a date)
Delete all those files (random .exe's with 3 characters before it) with exactly the same filesize and date!!! Please don't delete any others!!
If you're unsure about this, leave it.

To do this quickly..

Open Explorer to C:\WINDOWS\System32.
Change the view to details and click on the header of the size column in order to sort the files on size.
So, you'll find all the files sorted by size. (most probably 8kb as you have seen in the properties of that file)

Do the same for your WINDOWS-folder.
Also look in your WINDOWS-folder if there are random .html-files eg jhl2.html, hyrs.html, usr.html (these are just examples)
They also must have the same date!!! So delete them.

7. Run CCleaner, click Run CCleaner (bottom right)

Reboot your system back to normal,

8. Download the inf file (right click the link below --> Save Target As) and save it to your desktop.
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf
Right-click on the deldomains.inf file on your desktop and select 'Install'

9. Do an online virusscan:
housecall and Bitdefender

10. Reboot again and post a new HijackThis log, as well as the HSFix log which is located at C:/hslog.txt!

Thank You for offering assistance.

I located a program Kaspersky Anti-virus Personal 5.0 that fixes the problems. In case you wish to provide this program in assisting other people there is a posting in CastleCops forum that provides links for its download and a step-by-step guide for rectifying issues with the virus i had acquired. The URL is http://castlecops.com/postt106277.html.

Thank you once again for your asssistance and replying so promptly
I have checked my HijackThis log and it was clean. One thing that the posting doesn't specify is that you are required to fun HijackThis after you return to Windows normally and correct the register as well as uninstall programs such as ISecurity. Since using this program, Hijack This and unistalling ISecurity i have not encountered any problems. I hope this may prove helpful to you as a way to help people when Hijack This is unable to.

Yours sincerely
Brenton

Brenton, I suggest you to follow didom's instructions exactly if you want to get rid of the malware. Also post ALL requested log files because we need them to help you further.

Your log is not clean.
Everyday is virus day. Do you know where your recovery CDs are ?
Did you create them yet ?

Allow it to run. !! don't forget this step !!

4. Find and delete these files and folders (if they are still there):
