I have downloaded combofix on my desktop, but when I try to run it I get an error that windows cannot open file pv.cfexe. I have run combofix in the past and it worked fine. Now it does not work. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot. mnedil

If you think that your system is infected....an assumption on my part...then the place to post for assistance would be BleepingComputer.com - Am I infected What do I do - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/

You can get advice suggestions that will probably assist you more rapidly than posting here, in this section of the website.

If you think you may be infected with malware, the first place to start is in the "Am I Infected? What Do I Do?" forum. This is a centralized place where advanced members and staff can provide initial assistance with malware removal. If your issues cannot be resolved there, then you will receive further instructions as to what you need to do.

Please be patient, I will have a Moderator move your topic to the appropriate forum.

Just as an advisory, mnedil:

ComboFix is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for private use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.
