I was just given a used e- machines computer T2542 model. previous owners said they could not get it to work and gave it to me for free. Took it home and tried it out and got nothing.
Changed power supplies and now the cpu fan runs and the light on the front of the case comes on but thats it.
Blank screen, no beeps, cd rom wont open, no sound from hard drive spinning up. any suggestions? the lights on the keyboard come on for just a second then go off. possible short?

Most likely a bad motheboard. Most of the units I have repaired need a MB and PSU. Do you have access to another computer that you could check parts in?
