It started with my screen freezing after trying to load a program so I clicked the shut down button to reboot my dell laptop (Inspiron 1520). After that, the laptop will not reboot. Whenever I try to restart it in normal mode, it loads on a black screen, flashes a blue screen and goes back to the startup page. When i tried to run a diagnostic test, it fail the DST test with a Msg Error Code: 2000-0146. I've read several post about this being a hard drive problem. Is there a way to confirm this problem? If it is a hard drive problem, in worse case scenario, how much would it cost to replace the hard drive?

Thanks a bunch!

The error that you quoted means this: "DST Log contains previous error(s)"

Since it involves your hard drive, I'd suggest downloading a bootable diagnostic utility from the manufacturer of your hard drive and running it to verify this problem. But it looks like the solution is going to be a new hard drive.

You'd have to use another computer to download the tool and burn it to a bootable CD (such as the one you're using to post here).

Or, you could...
buy another hard drive,
install Windows on it,
download the tool,
download an ISO burner,
burn it to a CD,
remove the new hard drive,
put the old one back in,
then run the test).

The assumption here is that there is something wrong with the hard drive then? How much would it cost if I replace it?
