I have a Sony VAIO laptop with 3 USB drives on it. On any of the USB drives I can plug in a mouse or a thumb drive without any problems. When I try to connect my USB hard drive or my MP3 player, it does not recognize it. I am at my wit's end, any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

IME, .mp3 players are iffy...some have software/drivers, some don't. What manufacturer, model?

Re the USB external drive...is it a name brand drive (manufacturer, model)?

Is it a hard drive which you put in an external enclosure?

Did you check Disk Management to see if either is recognized there (I assume that you checked My Computer/Explorer, but there are instances where a drive can be recognized but not reflected in My Computer)?
