Hey,

PC is 3weeks old, running vista home 32bit, PC used to boot up within the space of a minute, now it seems to hang on the first 'page' for about 1min 40sec's (yes ive timed it lol) before continuing loading up fully, everything seems to be running ok elsewhere, nothing new installed previous to the problem starting etc... however the keyboard stopped working the same day it started to hang.

Now the strange bit, ive just reinstalled vista due these two issues, with it being a new PC id just created a backup disk so thought i might aswell, now the keyboard seems to be working as normal but it still hangs on the first screen.

The screen is the first one you get after pressing the power button, all black with white writing, the only thing that shows is something about phoenix technology and then lists my processor, later after its "unfroze" it lists other devices installed as usual and then will load into windows

Why the problems still there after reinstalling vista baffles me so any help apprciated guys and gals!
If none of that makes sense just let me know and ill try to explain.

(P.S sorry if this is in the wrong place i could see any better place to post it)

If it's hanging when the BIOS name, etc are still being listed it's hanging on POST and there might be a problem with your hardware instead of vista. Something is timing out and it is eventually skipping it and moving on.... Could be your keyboard. Usually, it's the simple things. Try replacing your keyboard. is your keyboard a PS/2 or USB? sometimes if the BIOS isn't set right on some models, the malsetting for USB devices on boot causes it to trip up.

Hi thanks for the reply.

Keyboard is PS/2 connection, have tried two keyboards now and the same problem is happening, both PS/2 connections tho as i dont have a USB keyboard.
Also the keyboards dont work until windows has loaded.

What would you suggest trying here?
Massive pain having to wait up to 5mins for windows to load lol and the strange thing is it was working fine the night before (usual story eh) but no changes where made it was just powered down and the switch on the next morning.

never plug or unplug a ps2 device unless the computer is powered down completely, it can fry your motherboard

if both keyboards work on other computers(like accessing bios or even pause break key to stop post) then something is wrong with your motherboard or bios or both

DaChew

Both keyboards work on this PC but do not show any sign of life until windows has fully loaded, then they work with no problems

Ive threw my old tower and bits out after keeping anything of use as it was no longer needed and my laptop doesnt have a PS/2 port on it

Are there any test i can do on the bios or motherboard once loaded into windows?

factory build or custom, if factory make and model

the N15235 is not the model of this motherboard. Mine turned out to be the Foxconn 6100M2MA-RSH2

I'll have to have another look at the motherboard when i get home tonight, for some reason programs like everst come back with results 'unknown' so i'll just open it up again.

Problem resolved - dont ask how tho! lol

i basically installed a new graphics card for the dual monitors and a new DVD drive and another HD, when i loaded back up it did not freeze at the post screen, been ok since then so fingers crossed!

the only other thing i did was change bios so it showed the motherboard splash screen on boot.

cheers for the help anyways
