hi everyone,
After everyone suggested I reinstall XP today, I cleaned out my data and did a fresh reinstall.

all seems to be fine except my Network adapter ( Intel ® PRO/100 VE Network Connection) does not show up in Device Manager and plugging it into the internet does not accomplish anything. The only net adapter that does show up is the 1394 Net Adapter.

I've already read some suggestions -- would like to know how to proceed:

1. I downloaded the device drivers on my laptop and can export them via CD

2. Should I reconnect the network adapter by hand?

3. Should I do both?

Any help would be appreciated as I'd like to get this back online today

I was able to make it work by importing the drivers from another PC. Thanks.
