Cannot Find Notice

When accessing the internet from my desktop shortcuts, I get a cannot find notice from windows before the site is displayed.
Generally the computer is slow. The operating system is windows xp professional.

Chkdsk, defrag the system.

just in case you dont know how to checkdsk

go to "Start" then "Run"

in the prompt type in "cmd"

in the window that pops up type in:

chkdsk /f

then hit enter

it will ask if you want to run it on restart type "y" then hit enter

exit the window
