Hello all, I downloaded zone alarm firewall. I have never installed a firewall. Should I install in safe mode or just disconnect from the internet and install from user acct.? Should I disable av protection before installing ?Will turning off windows firewall and rebooting be good or do I have to uninstall the firewall ? If so how ? Thanks joe mc

Just double click on the installer and it'll walk you through the installation step by step.

joemccaffreync, it's better to not run two firewalls at the same time, it might corrupt the new install of Zone alarm. Turn off windows firewall and double click on the on the installer as usasma said. I've been a ZA Pro user since version 2, I'm a very satisfied customer for whats it's worth.

Let usasma guide you through the installation
Steve

Hello, Thanks for the reply cmmtch,Well the install froze at 24%. Installing files system32\zonealarm\zaquarantine.dll. After trying to install I noticed that numerous programs are now missing from add\remove programs. Any ideas on what may have caused this ? I ran adaware,a2 squared, my av (shield deluxe ) all show a clean system with the exception of a few tracking cookies. Spybot s&d came up with agobot-ku I googled and it seems that it could very well be a false positive. I ran housecall, and f-secure online scans all clear after spybot. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks joe mc

I've never had that happen to me (missing programs) after installing, or installing an upgrade. Be sure Spybot "resident protection and tea timer" are disabled. Zone alarm will make changes to your registry while installing. Any purely antivirus programs shouldn't interfere with installing ZA, but any other firewall/real time type of computer protection programs might affect it (the install)

I'm going to stop replying joe mc, I feel like I'm stepping on usasma's toe's here. He made an offer to walk you through the install and I've been butting in on his offer.

Very sorry usasma, it won't be happening anymore. Carry on without interruption from me.
Steve
