Wireless Router & Zyzel Modem Question

I use Earthlink as my ISP. I have been with them for 4 or 5 years. I have a Zyxel Prestige DSL modem from them. I am trying to find out if I will have to TELNET into the modem and do what they call "Bridge The Modem" in order to use the my new LinkSys Wireless DSL Router. The reason I am curious is that I installed this same router for a relative recently on their Bell South DSL and I had to get Bell South support on the line to help me change the settings to "Bridge The Modem". I have been told that sometimes you have to do this and sometimes you don't.

Have you tried ? I am on cable but I have a motorola that I access thru IE . The address is //192.168.100.1 . Try it . You ISP make have a different LAN IP for the modem . Just a thought .

Here is the story from Earthlink on bridging Modems. Modems that need bridging when going to a broadband router are called UHP modems. These modems seem to be ones that do not require a PPPoE software to be loaded on your computer. It comes with the modem, instead of being a computer installation. They showed up in the market in the summer of 2002. I found that mine does not have to be bridged because it is older than Methuzalea. Here is a link with info if you are interested:
