Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you.
I apologize for the delay getting to your log, the helpers here are very busy.

If you still need help, please post a fresh Hijackthis log, in this thread, so I can help you with your malware problems.
If you have resolved this issue please let us know.
Posted Image If I have helped you in any way, please consider a donation to help me continue the fight against malware.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!

I don't see any signs of an active malware infection in your log. Can you tell me a little more about the problems that you are having?

Sam,

OK well the problems have been that computer resources are always maxed out. I just cleared out a whole mess of spyware and viruses from it, but I think they might have affected how the computer operates. Its either that or its a hardware problem.

I might need to reinstall windows. What do you think?

Let's be sure to rule out malware first and then we'll look at your other options.

Please download ComboFix and save it to your desktop.
Prior to running Combofix.exe you should disable your antivirus program and disconnect from the internet.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.

Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

You did a good job removing the spyware. I don't find any signs of infection in your log.
Here's what I can recommend for you now.

Check this link for some tips on improving performance. It was written by one of the experts here. Some of this you probably have already done, but it's good to review from time to time.

http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiem...owcomputer.html

Next go download the trial version of RegTune by Ace Utilities. Use it to safely clean your registry.

http://www.acelogix.com/regtune.html

Finally run through the tests at PC Pitstop. It may help pinpoint a particular issue.

http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/

Let me know how it goes.

Sam,

Sorry it took so long to reply. The links above helped a little bit. The startup for the computer is really really slow. That has been my biggest concern. Also the computer is always trying to download an XP update (still using service pack 2), but when I try to download the update, it requires me to insert the original XP disks and she has no idea where they are. Do you know if I can find a link to just download the updates from a website?

You can download the updates from here.

http://www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

If you are still having issues, you may want to consider a repair installation of XP. But for that, you will need your Windows disc.
