Also, I have two internal hard drives that I believe are infected with malware, and viruses. Can anyone help me get rid of them? I tried grabbing a HiJackThis log for one, but it kept giving me the one for my installed hard drive.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I know that many are busy, but I haven't received a response. My computer is running more sluggish than ever.

Hi latinodancer15, I'm sorry we couldn't help you sooner but as you can see the forums are extremely busy. I'm subscribed to this topic now and will help you with any malware issues you may have.

Since it has been a while since you posted last and changes may have been made to your system please run HijackThis and post a new log in your next reply.

I don't see anything malicious in your log, are you having any particular issues apart from being sluggish?

P2P PROGRAMS
IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

BitComet

I'd like you to read the Guidelines for P2P Programs where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them.

Also available here.

My recommendation is you go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

If you wish to keep them, please do not use them until your computer is cleaned.

Step 1:
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
  • Close any programs you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
  • Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment, JRE, J2SE, or Java Webstart in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all installed versions of Java.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment(JRE) and install it to your computer.

Step 2:
Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan. Please use Internet Explorer as it uses ActiveX.
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX from Kaspersky. Click Yes.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Next button.
  • Click on Scan Settings button.
  • Select extended under Scan using the following antivirus database:
  • Check (tick) these boxes under Scan options:
    • Scan Archives
    • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Click on My Computer under Please select a target to scan:
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected. Click on Save as text button and save it to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste this log in your next reply.

The only reason I'm asking is because I scanned an IDE hard drive filled with viruses, and ever since then my computer hasn't been running on it's top performance. I've purchased System Mechanics, and TuneUp Utilities, but it still continues to run sluggish.

Here you go:

Hi, there is no sign of any malware showing. I can suggest some optional fixes, it might help speed up your machine.

Some of these optional fixes require some lines to be fixed with HijackThis, this is how to go about doing so.
  • Run HijackThis
  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items you wish to fix (if present):

    HijackThis lines

  • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application and Restart your computer.
autotbar.exe (HP AutoView Toolbar) process can be removed to free up resources without compromising system performance. autotbar.exe is a process belonging to the HP AutoView Internet Explorer Toolbar. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference. This program is not required to start automatically as you can start it manually if you need it. It is advised that you disable this program so that it does not take up necessary resources. Many users have reported this process slows their boot time. It may be worthwhile to fix it with HijackThis. Item(s) to fix in HijackThis:

O4 - .DEFAULT User Startup: AutoTBar.exe (User 'Default user')

ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker BHO
This toolbar came installed with ZoneAlarm and offers no added protection, you can read further information on it here.
You can fix the following with HijackThis.

O2 - BHO: ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker BHO - {F0D4B231-DA4B-4daf-81E4-DFEE4931A4AA} - C:\Program Files\ZoneAlarmSB\bar\1.bin\SPYBLOCK.DLL
O3 - Toolbar: ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker - {F0D4B239-DA4B-4daf-81E4-DFEE4931A4AA} - C:\Program Files\ZoneAlarmSB\bar\1.bin\SPYBLOCK.DLL

Ad-Aware 2007
If you are using the free version I suggest you remove it via Add/Remove programs as there is a service that runs in the background at all times offering no benefit whatsoever.
An free alternative which can be used as an on demand scanner is MalwareBytes Anti-Malware.
It also has a paid version with realtime protection.

AppleMobileDeviceService.exe (Apple Mobile Device) process can be removed to free up resources without compromising system performance. Used by iTunes to communicate with the Apple iPhone when it is connected to your computer. This is a valid program, but it is up to you whether or not you want it to run on startup. Whether or not you need to run this program on startup must be decided by you. If you feel that you want this program starting automatically so that you have it available as needed, then do not disable it. This program is not required to start automatically as you can start it manually if you need it. It is advised that you disable this program so that it does not take up necessary resources. Many users have reported this process slows their boot time. To change the service to Manual.
  • Right-click on My Computer and choose Manage.
  • Expand the Services and Applications section and click on Services.
  • On the right-side of the screen, find the entry for Apple Mobile Device and double-click on it.
  • Change the Startup Type: to Manual.
  • Hit the OK button and close the Computer Management screen.
It may be worthwhile to fix it with HijackThis. Item(s) to fix in HijackThis:

O23 - Service: Apple Mobile Device - Apple, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe

Yes, I still am.

The computer starts to freeze a lot now. I get many "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" error messages when I open big folders.

I have no idea.

I even tried the site you suggested, but nothing yet.

I do have 512 MB RAM, and it worked great before I used the external hard drive.

I have AVG Pro, and it scans both my C and D drive with no infections.

Hi latinodancer15,

It seems like a hardware issue, you can post at the appropriate hardware forum here at BleepingComputer where someone should be able to help you. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/137/hardware/

It isn't a malware issue so you can link to this topic so people know. I hope you can get it sorted out.
