I just bought this new computer and it had no operating system...i installed windows xp home and then installed video/audio drivers that came with it.....after that i tried to install a game and the computer shut down while CD rom was installing.......i've tried other things that cause the computer to work harder and it ends up shutting down, not restarting, just shutting down.....i dont have to unplug it or anything it will start back up right away, i've checked the event logs and nothing is listed in there as an error, i've also turned off the windows auto shutdown thing in hopes of getting an error message but when it does it i still get no message.....something in the hardward has to be faulty since all it has is windows and some drivers on it, the fans and cpu have censors on them that are supposed to send off alarms if the temp goes to high but so far nothing...it just shuts down.......plz help!

also heres the link to the standard computer i got.

If it's shutting down with no warning or error message, I'd suspect overheating. Have you had the side off to inspect the inside? Maybe the heatsink came loose during shipping. In fact, I'd reseat everything

i thought it wasn't a overheat problem if you could turn it back on right away? anyway, finally got a game installed by copying from shared folder and transfering it...then tried to play it and the computer shut off, now when you try to boot it up it only gets to the windows xp loading screen then shuts off....upon startup i can put it into safe mode and that loads up just fine, so now i'm wondering if it might be software? even tho its just got windows and this one game? i restart from safe mode to normal mode and it only gets to windows xp loading page.....possible heat sink or overheating then? its got some type of smart fan system with alarms that are supposed to go off at 60degrees Celcius......this is all very frustrating.....next thing i'm gonna do it open it up to check the heatsinnk like you said and see if fans are running, then i'm gonna swap out memory back and forth and see if maybe thats the problem. any other info may help too

did you load motherboard chipset drivers before loading the video driver?

and you did use the xp drivers not vista?

yes, the video and motherboard chipset drivers and everything came on one disk, kinda like an all in one program, i loaded that right after i got the operating system installed as per instructions...and it was the winxp version.

That`s why I won`t purchase a computer on Ebay, you just never know, it`s supposed to be a brand new computer, but won`t function right out of the box. I went to the link you posted, and looked at their return policy, that`s a pretty strict one, and the shipping costs, and restocking fees, whew!!!, I see why you are trying to troubleshoot, cause it looks like it will cost you an arm and a leg to return it. Wishing you luck, hope you get it figured out.

oh they're willing to work with me on getting it fixed, if its a bad part they will replace it...i just need to get it narrowed down to the right problem....thats why i'm hopeing whoever posted the link to that hardware moniter program can look at the results or someone who's very knowledgeable about it can look at them and maybe see something out of place......i have a hard time believing its a software issue since all thats been installed is windows and the driver disk that came with it.

well just about all I got from that log was the power supply seems to be OK

the motherboard sensor/chipset/bios are screwy, must have been some overproduced oem version gigabyte board sold off cheap instead of fixing it properly with a new bios

let's try everest home free

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

need to see quick report text under overclock and sensor in the computer section

don't bother with all the 0's at the bottom

here again we see non-standard results, I doubt that even the trial latest versions of everest will return any memory data

Motherboard 59 C (138 F)
CPU 66 C (151 F)

sensor did give us some believable voltages and temps

the power supply is off specs and the case is too damn hot

return it for full refund at their expense
