i have windows xp pro 2002 sp2, a pentium d cpu 3.40ghz 3.40ghz, .99gb of ram...
the system crashes randomly when i start using it.. sometimes it happens within minutes and sometimes it takes hours between each crash..
this morning i left the pc on and when i came back it still had not crashed and restarted
it restarts everytime it crashes..
sometimes mozilla has to close on its own.. and kaspersky sometimes gives a message that the program could not be started properly...

please help...

First question: Is Windows up-to-date with critical updates?

Second question: Have you done a thorough check on the system for malware?

FYI: To assist in getting info on the causes of the crashing, Disable Auto Reboot On System Crash - http://www.theeldergeek.com/auto_reboot_on_system_crash.htm

After disabling auto reboot, then (after the next crash) check Event Viewer for errors that occur roughly at that time.

What is the Event Viewer, and Should I Care - Ask Leo! - http://ask-leo.com/what_is_the_event_viewe...uld_i_care.html

Post details of said errors in your next or later post, please.

According to the second error message you posted...you have a troublesome hard drive.

Please follow the instructions in the link for running the Graphical Version: XP Chkdsk, Using the Graphical Version (My Computer) - http://www.updatexp.com/windows-xp-chkdsk.html

Scroll down to the appropriate section, please and follow instructions.

In the event that you have more than 1 partition/drive, run chkdsk in the same manner on each partition/drive.

Louis
