I first noticed that I had no control panel when I tried to access add and remove programs after receiving popups stating that my computer was infected with spyware. I was unable to perform a system restore.
When I Ctrl+alt+delete I just get, "task manager has been disabled by administrator" which I am. Other accounts have task manager. I am using my sons right now but he does not have administrative privliges.
Up until this morning I was getting constant popups from "windows security center" saying, "spyware infection detected; click here to remove" which lead to Antispywareupdates.net to purchase software.
This was the only way I had to access the internet. As of today the pop ups have stoped.
When I tried to install SpyBot I got this error: RuntimeError (at 10:1166):Access violation of address 016321C4. Read of Address 016321C4
I have tried housecall many times and when I click scan the page just closes
McAffee completed a scan last night
Last night I tried all steps above and tried to post a hijackthis log but the page kept closing. Today in my son's name it says the system denied access to host files.

Hello L Simmons and welcome to BC :flowers:

I notice that you have an HJT log posted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/134541/xp-infected-with-something/ Since you have that log posted, please DO NOT make any further changes to your computer: deleting files, editing the registry, using special fix tools, installing or uninstalling software etc. as this will make it more difficult for the HJT team to help you.

Please be patient as the HJT team is very busy. DO NOT bump your log as the team may think that someone is already helping you. If you have not had a response in five days, add a response to the five days no response topic and paste in the link to your thread.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. When you have been declared clean in the HJT forum and feel you need this topic reopened, please PM a moderator.
