Microphone help

My problem is that i plugged in a microphone into my computer (windows XP home 512 MB Dell) and when i go to voice chat it dosn't work any ideas?

Are you sure you plugged it into the input, not to the outline?

Secondly, double click on the speaker icon in your taskbar (bottom right near clock), and make sure the line in control is turned on.

ok ihave made sure my mic is in the right input and it still dosn't work
