I get popup messages that my computer may be infected with viruses. When I try to close the message, it opens my browser. Symantecs pops up that is has deleted the file, but it continues to happen. I also have a yellow bar at the top of my browser that warns me that I have a virus and to "click here".

I ran the housecall program and it listed troj_dloader.fkq as malware but was unable to remove. I also ran spybot which was unable to remove c:\windows\schedLgu.txt

Unsure what all this means but hope someone can help get rid of this nasty thing.

Hi and welcome,

Looks like Symantec & Spybot can only see part of the issue.

Please download this file and save it to your desktop:

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet.

Next, please reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" by doing the following :
1. Restart your computer
2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
5. Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, double-click on "SmitfraudFix.exe"
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please attach that report into your next reply along with a new hijackthis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

***Note : "process.exe" is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
It is safe to allow this file.

Let me know how the system is running please.

Thanks
I'll have an order of massive trojan attack please with a side order of rootkit and virus dip.
Pre-course order of fresh spyware salad please with a side order of polymorphic dressing.
And to drink...a nice tall glass of adware!

For dessert; can I have a bowl of the freshest worms you have please?.

Never Give Up!

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad we could help.

Looking much better.
Still a couple things to fix up though and one folder to verify it is gone. Looks like SmitFraudFix had some problem removing it.

Start Hijackthis
Run system scan and check:

O3 - Toolbar: emotigt - {54BECB1C-D4EA-47B2-9B56-C6768144FDD5} - C:\WINDOWS\emotigt.dll (file missing)
O21 - SSODL: bdmanager - {571E67D6-4523-40A0-B029-3C0FA6B11E83} - C:\WINDOWS\bdmanager.dll (file missing)

Close all other optn windows and hit "fix checked" then OK.

Restart

Locate and delete if found this folder:

C:\WINDOWS\privacy_danger

Let me know if problems deleting that folder.

Please also post fresh hijackthis log and let me know if things are still OK.

Thanks
I'll have an order of massive trojan attack please with a side order of rootkit and virus dip.

Unable to delete folder C:\windows\privacy_danger, access denied. Can't open folder either, but it says the folder is empty.

Otherwise, everything is still ok. Thanks again.

Hi,

Log looks good.

About that folder ... odd

Boot up in Safe mode, log into the admin account and see if you can delete it.
If not -- follow instructions on this page to take ownership of the Privacy_Danger folder then delete it:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

You most likely need to be in safe mode to see the security tab.

Don't do that to any other files/folders -- some are supposed to have restrictions set.

Let me know if you have troubles please.
