Hi, I have a bad virus on my PC that opens additional IE windows advertising celldorado, paddypower etc and causes a buffer overun?? making the taskbar disappear. I have Norton 360 which keeps identifying 2 Trojan Vundo viruses on my PC but doesn't seem to be able to get rid of them. I tried Fixvundo (norton), Virtumundobegone and vundo fix which all find lots of problems but cant solve it. I have also found a suspicious entry in my msconfig startup log which is blank? My IT manager recommended your site and told me to follow your instructions. I have followed your advice with Ad-Aware - Spybot - Bit Defender - McAfee Stinger and have produced a HijckThis log (shown below). Please can you help me! Kind Regards.

Hi,

Please uninstall the Spyblocker Toolbar, because it's not recommended since it uses the ask.com searchengine.

Then, * Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Hi,

Please also uninstall the AskBar/ Ask Toolbar via software > add/remove programs, since this one is not recommended either (same reason as the Spyblocker toolbar).

Then reboot.
After reboot,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

Hi Miekiemoes, thanks once again for your reply. I uninstalled the Ask toolbar and checked the boxes in Hijack this that you listed and hit fix. I then followed the combofix instructions from which the log that was produced is below. beneath the combofix log is a new hijack this log separated by a few spaces. Kind Regards.

Hi,

I see you also installed Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. Be careful with Registry Cleaners. You may want to read this:
http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/02/reg...weaking_13.html

Let's deal with the rest now...

* Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msogjjwr.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kffthaxq.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jotmjtdb.ini

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.

Miekiemoes, your article / blog might explain why my Dell all in one printer is not working! I have uninstalled the reg cleaner. I think I got my printer to work last time by reinstalling the printer software is this correct? I did as you said with combofix (please see log below) and below this is a new hijackThis log. Kind Regards

Hi,

Yes, reinstall the printer software

Your log looks clean again.

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • For Platform, select "Windows"
  • For language, select your language
  • Read the License agreement and then Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement".
  • Click Continue
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u5-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Then, * Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are running now.

Hi Miekiemoes, Thanks ever so much for your help! my PC is running better than it has for a long time. Printer is also working again (think that must have been the reg cure! like you said!) You have helped me enough so I wouldn't mind if you dont reply to this but can you offer me some advice as to how I can prevent this happening again? Also I have a different Topic that I have posted (Non Malware related) and it says it has been 'moved'? what does this mean? Kind Regards

Hi,

Glad I could help.

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!

As for your other thread, I see it has been moved to Software > All other Applications
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...mp;#entry758104
So I'm sure someone will help you with this asap.
Although I never used Citrix, I found this article which may help:
http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX103258
Not really sure if this article applies for your version though.
In anyway, you may also find some answers on the Citrix forum: http://hqextsrvsft01.citrix.com/forums/ind...pa?categoryID=1
