Hello - I have been consistently having problems removing trojan.agent.nh and ongoing internet access time-out problems from multiple programs. Have been through all of the steps with multiple antivirus, trojan, adware and other programs. I don't seem to be able to clear trojan.agent.nh - it shows up at start-up every time. Internet access is super slow or times out regularly, although DSL and other system checks are ok. Here's the hijack this report (i also have one from before the start of running antivirus and other clean-up if it helps). Thanks for your help!

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 .
  • Scroll down to where it says "The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
Go here to run an online scannner from ESET.
  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked, and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic, along with a new HijackThis log and a description of any remaining problems.

Thanks for the assistance. Not sure if i've been able to clear the virus (trend micro shows it clear, though AVG anti-virus continues to find the file - perhaps one that's been quarantined?). Continuing to have internet access issues. Have worked through troubleshooting with ISP with no luck. Access is intermittent - works fine for 5-10 mins, then DNS errors 10-20 mins or thereabouts, then works fine. Any suggestions appreciated.

Here's the ESET log:

It consistently finds the trojan in a two locations (after deleting and quarantine):

[1436]c:\windows\system32\AppCert\wnl32.dll
c:\windows\system32\AppCert\wnl32.dll

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\AppCert
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\AppCert
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\AppCertDlls
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste Custom List Of Files/Patterns To Move" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Yes, still detecting it even after multiple runs and deletions. File location has changed, however.

That's OK, that's the quarantine folder OTMoveit uses. We'll clear it out now
  • Double click OTMoveIt2.exe to launch it.
  • Click on the CleanUp! button.
  • OTMoveIt will download a list from the Internet, if your firewall or other defensive programs alerts you, allow it access.
  • You will be prompted to allow the clean up procedure, click Yes
  • When finished exit out of OTMoveIt2
  • Now delete OTMoveIt2.exe (if still present)
