Okay I aint got much time to mess about really. My sister accepted a virus and it's messing up my PC. I know all about the programs and stuff but I really need some help with HijackThis. If you could so kindly give me an analysis to my log it would be much appreciated.

P.S. I have had to log into Safe Mode just to get on this site because the virus stops me accessing any Spyware/Malware help sites.

This is the log:

You have Messenger Plus installed. This program is known to install malware. I would advise that you remove this program from your computer.

This worm came via MSN Messenger. You should be alert now.. Do not click on files you don't know.

You must put it in its own directory, not in a temporary folder, or on your desktop and it must be unzipped to work properly. Extract the program to a folder you create such as "C:\Program Files\HijackThis\" or "C:\HijackThis\"

* Please download en run this tool:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...moval.tool.html

* Start HijackThis. Choose "Do a system scan only". Check the following items:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - (no file)
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusearch.html?p=ZS
O20 - Winlogon Notify: win_spool2 - win_spool2.dll (file missing)

If you or your administrator have established this feature not themselves, then you can fix this to:
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present

After checking these items, close all browser windows and click "Fix checked".

Reboot your computer into safe mode (Instructions)
Make sure all hidden files and folders are visible (Instructions )

* You need to run a search for this file:
win_spool2.dll <= this file

Reboot into normal mode,

* This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:
  • Step 1:Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

  • Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.
* Download the Hoster from here. Press Restore Original Hosts and press OK. Exit Program. This will restore the original deleted Hosts file.

* Please run these two online scans. Make sure they are set to clean automatically:

TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Let us know if its working better and what the scans found.

* Reboot your computer back into normal mode and post a new log,
didom

Thanks a lot for your help. I have had problems with Messenger Plus before and Malware. Is there anyway I can have Messenger Plus without having Malware. By the way, I did install Messenger Plus without the sponsor package.

I will post a new log after I have done the Safe Mode part of it because I currently I am running 'AntiVir' (Luke Filewalker) and I have to leave it overnight.

Please read this story and then decide if you keep Messenger Plus!
