hi, i've been trying to remove this certain spyware from system and i thought that after scanning with spyboy s&d i'd be able to get rid of it...but turns out, it somehow comes back after it is removed by spyboy s&d. can anyone help me fix this? it's not really a big deal but it's really annoying when a blank IE window pops up once in a while.

here's my hjt log:

hi,

i don't know what happened to my computer but i can't access my task manager, command prompt, msconfig and system admin tools on my computer. also, whenever i click any of my hard drives (c: and e:), it opens another explorer window instead of just opening it on the window where i double-clicked my drive. one more thing is that when i turned on my computer before posting here, a warning came out saying that "windows can not run kvxo.exe" or something like that. is that a normal windows process? i'm guessing it's not... my computer has been experiencing slow downs as well.... i also found out that when i plug in removable media (i.e. a flash disk), my system creates an .exe file that has a "folder" icon with the same name as the folders in my flash drive. for example there's a "folder A" in my flash drive, it creates a "folder A.exe" inside "folder A". it does this for all other folders in my drive... i'm not sure if there are any other things that are wrong but these are the ones that i have found so far. can anyone please check my system and help me fix it? thank you.

Thanks Orange Blossom

Hello hotsauce,

Nasty infection you have. Likely will take a few rounds to fix it all up.

This is the worm making all those exes that look like folders:

http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/vi...w32sohanay.html

Please don't plug those flash drives in other PC! Otherwise you will spread the infection.
Keep your flash drive someplace where noone else can get em till we can clean them.

You have other computers in the house and share files/folders across network?
If so -- best to disable the shares for now and run scan on the other computer(s) as well.
This one spreads across networks and those folder looking exes are just time bombs waiting for the click...

one more thing is that when i turned on my computer before posting here, a warning came out saying that "windows can not run kvxo.exe" or something like that. is that a normal windows process? i'm guessing it's not...

I highly doubt it is normal .. Most likely your antimalware removed the file and just the registry entr(ies) remain resulting in the error. (windows trying to start non existant file)
We'll get that as we work.
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
  • ...
This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.

Please follow instructions on this page for using ComboFix. Especially the installation of Recovery Console if you don't have it installed already:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

When you run Combofix -- please plug in your flash drive while holding the shift key to prevent its autorun.
Combofix should clean up the flash drive too.

Post the log it creates. (c:\combofix.txt)

Notes:

--Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

--ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser.
--Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you -- please tell me.
--Your internet connection will be terminated while ComboFix runs. Do Not attempt to re-enable it. Should ComboFix terminate prematurely, restart the computer to restore connectivity.

Thanks
I'll have an order of massive trojan attack please with a side order of rootkit and virus dip.
Pre-course order of fresh spyware salad please with a side order of polymorphic dressing.
And to drink...a nice tall glass of adware!

For dessert; can I have a bowl of the freshest worms you have please?.

Never Give Up!

Hi,

Sounds good.

Any tools you used to remove infections (other than resident antivirus/antispyware of course) should be deleted as they are updated too often to keep around and can be dangerous in the hands of someone who does not know what they are doing.

If you didn't already ....
After a few reboots and checking to see that all is well; it is highly recommended to reset your system restore to remove any possible backed up infected files there.

Right click "my computer"
Click "properties"
Click "system restore" tab
Checkmark "turn off system restore"
Hit apply> ok> ok.

Reboot

Go back and turn system restore back on by removing the check, hit apply, and OK.

A new restore point is created at this time.
You will not be able to restore computer to any earlier than today.

here is some great information to help you stay clean and safe online:
