Hello geasy,

Welcome to Bleeping Computer

Thank you for the information you provided, and for following the proper channels. Some people don't, so it's doubly appreciated.

I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with the fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts

You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please, along with a new HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Thanks,
tea
Please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you.
Every little bit helps! :)
You can even use your credit card! Thank you!

Hello,

You're welcome.

Please print these instructions or copy them to Notepad (or another word processor), and save it for easier reference. This is because we will be in Safe Mode during the fix and you won’t be able to access the Internet to view these instructions.

Please download AVG Anti-Spyware Free Edition and save that file to your desktop. Please note: This is a different program than your AVG AntiVirus!

This is a 30-day trial of the program -- This means that after 30 days the "background guard" protection will be de-activated. However, this version can continue to be manually updated and used as an on-demand scanner forever.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the setup program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need to run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
  • On the top of the main screen select the "Update" icon, then under the "Manual update" section click the "Start update" button.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed (the progress bar will display "Update successful!") select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the "Settings" screen:
    • Click on "Recommended actions" -> select "Quarantine".
    • Under "Reports:" -> select "Do not automatically generate reports".
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Please do NOT run a scan yet!
Next, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode by doing the following:
  • Reboot your computer.
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but just before the Windows icon appears, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, reboot the computer and try again.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.
  • Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the "Safe Mode" menu item, and then press "Enter".
Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {19D0C86C-BD86-4BE6-9E9A-E0C3F2F2988B} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3EA01109-2C68-44CF-86AA-315141E77101} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {51145771-96AE-41A6-9F52-535B9EDB0CE8} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7F949CB7-D974-4E58-AB75-3442819DEA91} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C21F2C3F-5FD4-485A-B4A7-4F22ACC0C8B6} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BMef8fb117] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\lefrrise.dll",s

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

Then please run a scan with AVG Anti-Spyware:

IMPORTANT: Do NOT open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process.
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab. Click on "Complete System Scan".
  • AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
    • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select the "Apply all actions" button, AVG Anti-Spyware will then display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
    • Next select the "Save Report" button at the bottom.
    • Then select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand corner of the screen and save it as a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important!).
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system normally into Windows. Please post the contents of the AVG Anti-Spyware report in your next reply, along with a new HijackThis log.
How is it running?

Thanks,
tea
Please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you.
Every little bit helps! :)
You can even use your credit card! Thank you!

i bought a hp photosmart printer, set it and it all worked fine.
a few months later i had to reformat my pc after my kids had gone on it.
when i went to reinstall the deivers for the printer i couldnt find the disc( my computor desk is very unorganised).
i went to hp website and downloaded the driver bundle and installed them( ill post a link to the page where i got them from at the end).

in answer to the question does it work ok then that is a big no. it works somestimes and other times it just flat refuses to do anything. sometimes it will let me scan to the pc but when i go to print what i have scaned it says another program is useing the network . in short it baffles me.

the printer is hp photosmart 2575 all in one and here is a link to the site where i got the drivers.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...;product=441240
and i downloaded and installed the the thrid one down.

Hello,

Have you looked in Device Manager to see if there are any other problems with it?

the only thing i can find in device manager with the question mark on it is other devices. then a drop down tab from that that says multimedia audio controller.

but i will delete all the drivers and software for the printer and and try to reinstall them at a later date.

out of intrest what exactly would i be looking for in device manager.

thanks once agian tea, i really thought i would have to reformat my pc again and lose all my work and programs.

Hello,

You were looking for the right thing....the yellow question marks. I was just trying to be sure there was nothing in there for the printer. Troubleshooting isn't my forte, unfortunately. It's hard, especially since I can't see what you see before you.

No, no reformatting on my shift!

Your logs look good now. How is it running, besides the dratted printer?

everything seems to be running great at mo.
i did get a trojan alert from avg saying i had a trojan in my system restore. i fixed it and then turned my system restore off.(i find with system restore the only times i have ever needed to use it, it hasnt work. so as far as i can see its useless.

with the O1 - Hosts: HP001871070ACB HP001871070ACB in hijackthis, would it be ok to delet it with hijackthis, im going to uninstall all the programs and software that goes with it and reinstal, anyway.

and one last thing, i have heard that useing firefox instead of ie cuts down your risk of getting hijacked. is this true and if it is, is it easy enough to do.

thankyou so much for your help tea, you have been a real lifesaver.

Hello there,

You're most welcome.

Yes, you can fix it with HijackThis, and we'll put a little tiny program in your system that will give you a good Hosts File. I use Firefox exclusively and love it. It's faster, easy, and yes, more secure than IE. It also has tons of neat little addons, none of which have slowed my system down a bit. I bolded the Firefox part for you below.

Download the HostsXpert Here
http://www.funkytoad.com/download/HostsXpert.zip

Unzip HostsXpert to your desktop

Open up the HostsXpert program.

* Make sure that the "make hosts writable?" button in the upper left corner is enabled.
* Click back up Host files
* then click "Restore MS Hosts File"
* close program

Below I have included a number of recommendations on how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously! These few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems.

Regularly go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows, including the latest version of Internet Explorer. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer. You should also turn on the Windows automatic update feature.

It is very important to maintain your Firewall.
A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found here.

In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.

A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

IE/Spyad:
It places over 5000 malicious websites and domains in your IE's restricted zone.
IE/Spyad

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. A lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Please make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

Take care!
tea
