Are you installing MSN messenger or windows live messenger?<br />Also, if you have Messenger plus installed. That will slow you down.

I have a suggestion.

Why don't you simply use an IM program called Trillian.
It combines AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo together, its light on system resources and in all the time I've used it, it hasn't crashed my computer once.

I mean, so what if you can't have those fancy things like shared folders and custom emoticons.
You can still change your status, MSN display name and display picture.

Its vista capable and you can get it here

However if trillian isn't your cup of tea, let me know and I'll see what we can do with Windows Live messenger to stop it crashing for you
