This is the second time I've been hit with Trojans. The first time I got rid of two of them myself through many days of work and going through old forums and downloading programs to help get rid of it. Now, my computer is infected yet again. yeah ! I had aliant antivirus on my computer and it detected I think 4 trojans all together along with numerous other viruses, most of which could not be removed. However, this was a little while ago. I spent many weeks trying to get rid of it by going through forums and looking at information about how to remove them, etc but couldn't do it.

I eventually gave up and unfortunatly let my computer sit in its turmoil, putting up with the exteme! slowness, altering home pages and never being able to click on links since they led me to random sites such as searchdaily, etc. But I put up with it. Now, I can't any longer. My computer is now coming up with a blue screen at random times saying it must be shut down and then I have no other option other than to shut it off and turn it back on. And now, when I do my virus scan, the scan says there is no viruses or trojans, but I know they are still there. If there is any way someone can help, it would be really great!
Thank you!

Hello again darkskye. I never asked what is your Operating System (XP,2000 etc..). It that AV from the Freedom package? I've seen mention of it with Canadian packages. What anti spyware tools if any do you have and what firewall are you using? Ithink we can get you better protection, but we'll deal with that later.

Safe Mode.. Windows Safe Mode is a way of booting up your Windows operating system in order to run administrative and diagnostic tasks on your installation. When you boot into Safe Mode the operating system only loads the bare minimum of software that is required for the operating system to work. This mode of operating is designed to let you troubleshoot and run diagnostics on your computer. Windows Safe Mode loads a basic video drivers so your programs may look different than normal. From BC Tutorial.. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-windows-in-safe-mode/
Also any active malware is shut down and easier to remove. So, Yes you should run the scan from safe mode, especially if you know malware to be present.

You have removed a lot here but there is probably more. I would scan again from safe mode. How is the PC running now? Any more redirects,is it faster?

Some of the malware removed above are from the trojan Vundo. So First we'll run the VundoFix and then you can scan with these and SUPER again.
START Here
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Next perform an online scan..
ESET Online Scanner

Scan with your AV and the SUPER again. from safe mode.

How to enter safe mode(XP)
Using the F8 Method
Restart your computer.
When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.

NOW Scan with SUPER
Open from the desktop icon or the program Files list
On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
Perform a Complete scan. After scan,Verify they are all checked.
Click OK on the summary screen to quarantine all found items.
If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally.

To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log.
A text file will open in your default text editor.
Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
Click Close to exit the program.

Please ask any needed questions, post log and Let us know how the PC is running now.

Hello again,

Sorry, I wasn't quite sure what you meant for operating system. As for AV from the Freedom package...do you mean the antivirus Freedom from Aliant? Yes, that was what I had on there, but I deleted it about a week before I started posting here. It was doing me no good and didn't seem to be working properly. So, I downloaded Avast for an antivirus more or less temporarily until I can find something. And I also have Spybot Search and destroy, and HiJack This. I'm pretty sure I don't have any firewall.

I've definitely noticed a difference, especially since there are no more redirects, which is a great help. The internet is still very slow though still and there is still popups but that may be normal. Also, I'm not sure if this has anything to do with this, but whenever I start up my computer it takes a very very long time. That could be because of too many appilications starting up though.

Nothing was found when I ran the program Vundo Fix.

Then I ran my own antivirus in safe mode and nothing was found it said. However, when I restarted my computer, several things happened. First, I had a window pop up saying malware was detected: trojan adware.W32 ExpDownldr spyware detected.
Then yet another pop up came up which seemed to be from my antivirus avast. The heading was: A Virus Was Found!
Win32:Trojan-gen. I tried to repair it, but it came back saying file was not repaired.
Cannot process "C:\Program Files\SpyShredder\SpyShredder1.dll" file.
Then after I clicked "No Action" the window closed and I noticed a new icon on my desktop called SpyShredder. The icon looks like a red birdcage. I also have the icon on my right bottom corner alongside my other small icons in my toolbar. Then I got another popup asking me to get the full version of SpyShredder. The program keeps popping up saying 170 threats are detected and telling me to remove now.I don't know how this program came to all of a sudden pop up on my computer, but I am thinking it's the Trojan mentioned above that my Antivirus couldn't repair.

If I have forgotten to do anything, please let me know.

I've went through the tutorial and everything went good until I had to scan with Panda. Everytime I click on Scan My PC the window comes up with an error.

An error occurred while processing your request.

Is there another way I can scan with Panda?

That's all that was left of the tutorial to do.

It may just be a conflict with your Antivirus. Don't worry about that one. How is your PC runniing now?

Here is another you can try if needed.
ESET Online Scanner

Well...it seems nothing has changed. SpyShredder is still on my desktop after a reboot and more and more messages are coming up telling me I have a virus and telling me to purchase SpyShredder.etc. It seems it hasn't worked. Do you want to me to re-try the steps?
