I'm new to this forum and a real novice when it comes to computer problems.

I have a WD5000C032 external My Book.

Yesterday for no apparent reason, the 'book' is missing from the list of drives.

It light up when the computer is started, and flashes a couple of times, then nothing happens after that, as far as the computer is concerned, it just doesn't exist.

Any help would be really appreciated

Kind regards

Check in Disk Management for it (Start...Run...type in "diskmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter).
Check the cables and power supply (try another cable for the USB, and a multimeter to see if the power supply is putting out).
If it's not there, download a diagnostic utility from Western Digital and see what it has to say.
