Hi, first-time poster, so if I screw up in posting, please let me know and I'll go back and try and fix it!

Noticed a.doginitspen, b.skitodayplease, and 88.80.7.66 popping up in my history for the past week. Trying to open a window of Internet Explorer takes about 2-3 minutes now. I'm posting my Find AWF report below, if anyone would like to take a look at it and let me know what and how to get rid of it.

Thanks

Hello powerofthebook,

Welcome to Bleeping Computer

Please double-click the FindAWF icon once again

If a Security Alert shows, allow the program to run.
As instructed, press any key to continue.
Use the following option: Press 2 then Enter to restore files from bak folders

A text file opens called: files.txt
Click below the line and paste the following list of files to be restored:

"C:\hp\KBD\bak\KBD.EXE"
"C:\Program Files\DISC\bak\DISCover.exe"
"C:\Program Files\DISC\bak\DiscUpdateMgr.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\bak\UrlLstCk.exe"
"C:\Program Files\QuickTime\bak\qttask.exe"
"C:\Program Files\SymNetDrv\bak\SNDMon.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\bak\MSASCui.exe"
"C:\WINDOWS\ehome\bak\ehtray.exe"
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\bak\ctfmon.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\bak\ccApp.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\bak\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Boot Optimizer\bak\HPBootOp.exe"
"C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\bak\HPwuSchd2.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\bak\AdobeUpdateManager.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\bak\realsched.exe"
"C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\{33D6CC28-9F75-4d1b-A11D-98895B3A3729}\bak\hphupd08.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\bak\jusched.exe"

Next, close and click Yes to save the changes.

Once files.txt is saved, FindAWF does the following:
-It attempts to terminate the process represented by each filename on the list, if running
-Deletes the rogue file from the parent folder, if present
-Copies the original file to the parent folder

When done with the above, it automatically runs a new scan and opens a new log.
Please provide the new FindAWF log in your reply.

Thanks,
tea

Hello,

You're welcome. That looks great! Now we can go on to the next phase, and almost done!

As instructed, press any key to continue.
Use the following option: Press 3 then Enter to remove bak folders

A text file opens called: folders.txt
Click below the line and paste the following list of folders to be removed:

C:\hp\KBD\bak
C:\Program Files\DISC\bak
C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\bak
C:\Program Files\QuickTime\bak
C:\Program Files\SymNetDrv\bak

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\bak

Next, close and click Yes to save the changes.

When done with the above, FindAWF automatically runs a new scan and opens a new log that you need to post.

Yay! You're most welcome.

Let's do option #3 one more time for the following : C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\bak

When you're done with that, go to option #4 :

Double-click the FindAWF icon once again.
Use the following option: Press 4 then Enter to reset domain zones.

When the program returns to the main menu, use the following option:
Press E then Enter to EXIT.

You didn't start out with a HijackThis log.....do you have HijackThis? If not, Please do this:
1. Download HijackThis™ here:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/th.../hijackthis.php

2. Click 'Do a System Scan and Save log'.
The HJT log will open in notepad.

3. Post the log in your reply and let me know how it's running.

Thanks,
tea

Thanks, teacup! I'll get on the HijackThis log as soon as I'm done with the Find AWF. Speaking, of, here's the log from trying to remove the bak folder - should I do anything else, or proceed with option #4?

Hello,

Please delete FindAWF now.

That looks good! Let's add some speed to your startup now:

The following are not malware, but fixing them with HijackThis will improve your system's speed. None are necessary at startup, and may be started manually at any time. This is up to you.

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlwaysReady Power Message APP] ARPWRMSG.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DiscUpdateManager] C:\Program Files\DISC\DiscUpdateMgr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HPBootOp] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Boot Optimizer\HPBootOp.exe" /run
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPwuSchd2.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\GameDrvr.exe" /startup "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0500.dll"
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Updates from HP.lnk = C:\Program Files\Updates from HP\9972322\Program\Updates from HP.exe

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

Now reboot a time or two.

You have some good protection in place. The only thing I see missing would be a firewall. Some good free firewalls are Kerio, or Outpost. I use Comodo on my own system and really like it. http://comodo.com
A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found here.

Some good reading here: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Take care!

Hi teacup!

Sorry for the late reply - deadline days are getting to me. Will delete Find AWF and remove the suggested files through HijackThis as soon as my deadline's done - as well as looking into firewalls.

If you're ever up New Hampshire way, let me buy you a beer - or a cup of tea, whichever is more your speed! Thank you so much for walking me through this! My computer works wonderfully!
