Computer Virus Please Help Me

when i turn my computer on it loads the window screen however when the login screen is supposed to come up the computer just goes black but you can still see the mouse. Sometimes the mouse doesn't work. i have tried to start it in safe mode but it does the same thing and just goes black. i don't want to reboot my computer as i haven't saved my files. i have windows xp if thats any help

I got this virus from opening a file that was sent to me on msn (they had the virus too and it automatically sent) . Can you please help me.
