i thought i was safe behind eset smart security...but somehow i became infected. spyware doctor reports the infection as "rootkit.agent"

while infected i've employed several measures to rid my laptop of this annoyance, and the popups caused by the rootkit seem to be supressed by my combination of spyware doctor and agnitum outpost suite pro 2008. spyware doctor still finds the rootkit on each scan despite thinking it fixed the problem.

avg anti-rootkit finds tens of thousands of "hidden files", all of which named "op_cache" and having either "atr" or "idx" for extensions. avg supposedly can remove these hidden files, but hasn't worked yet...for various reasons.

adaware of course finds no traces of any infection. that's a useless piece of software. i know very well that i have cookies and mrus, thanks...now do something useful! you're the most popular piece of antispyware software out there and you can't help me with a f#*%ing rootkit?

after googling for remedies, i'm starting to notice that this problem is either very rare or very hard to fix without formatting. while that is an option, i don't have the dvds on me as i'm home from school for the week.

i guess i need a hijackthis log, so here goes:

I apologize for the very long delay. We have a huge backlog of HijackThis Logs to handle and it has been taking us greater time than normal to get caught up. If you are still having a problem, and want us to analyze your information, please post a brand new HijackThis log, along with a description of any problems you are experiencing. If we do not hear back from you within a couple of days we will need to close your topic.

When posting your logs please post them directly into the reply. Do not attach them.

Thank you for your patience.
