that's a fairly old drive, the most effective way to test them is to see if they will boot from a disk

just in case it won't here's a guide to on how to choose a replacement

So what I do? What if I want install something on that laptop. I have two laptops. One is the one I mentioned above, and the other is also a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4324 and that's working fine. But the A15-S127 when I put in a CD into the DVD/CD ROM it couldn't read nothing. It said please insert CD. I don't understand, I just did.

you will have to find a bootable cd and check to see if the drive is dead or not, that's simple, if it boots to the cd then we know it's software related

if it won't boot to the cd then it's broken

laptop cd/dvd drives don't last long, they break/wear out easily

When it boots up it reads the CD. But when I'm in XP it doesn't read it. I don't get it. Like you said something to do with software or something.

I have used these links more than any others for similar problems, read them if you are sure the drive is fine hardware wise

I don't suggest than anyone ever manually edit the registry tho, it's dangerous, I even avoid it myself and I have been doing this stuff for 10 years

I would be glad to look over your filter drive log tho?

Nothing is wrong with your driver. You need another software to play DVD's. I can't name any free ones though. Mine came with my computer.

Interesting, I don't remember them, wonder if the royalty issue had expired?

The french college kids that started vlc bypassed it with a loophole
