I almost hate to take a chance on wasting your time, but I am suspicious that I may have something lurking in my computer that is slowly disrupting normal operations. My system runs noticeably slower than usual (not bad, but definitely slower). When I load Word, it tries to install it. Then when the workpage comes up, I get a window asking me for my Workgroup name and ID (which I don't use since I'm not networked). After I save a document in either Word or WordPerfect, and I try to terminate the session, I get a message that I'm out of space and should make some space on my disk or save my document elsewhere. (I know I'm not lacking for space.) Clicking OK on this window gives me a Save As window to get me to save my document (or something) in the Templates folder using the suggested filename Normal.dot Closing that window gives me yet another window that informs me that "Changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal.dot. Do you want to save those changes?" By answering NO, I am finally allowed to terminate the Word session. I never had to do any of this before. I have attached my latest HJT scan for your viewing. Your advise would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Jupiter

Run an online antivirus check from at least one and preferably 2 of the following sites....select autoclean click below

Housecall
Panda scan

----------------------------------------------------------------------

download Spybot - Search & Destroy, from here: if you haven't already got the program.

Install the program and launch it.

Before scanning press Online and Search for Updates.

Put a check mark at and install all updates.

Click Check for Problems and when the scan is finished let Spybot fix/remove all it finds marked in RED.

Restart your computer.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Click here to download AdAware 6 181

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file 01R332 12.07.2004 by clicking Check for updates now, and following the prompts.

Now to set it up for optimum performance...

Make sure the following settings are configured. Remember that ON=GREEN.

Unload recognised processes during scanning.
Cleaning engine.
Let windows remove files in use at next reboot.

and uncheck..

Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion.

Then click Proceed, to save your settings.

Now click the Scan button.

When scan is finished, check the little box to the left of each entry to select them for removal, and get rid of them.

Hi, Lobos. I did as you instructed. House Call found 52 infected files which I deleted. Spy-Bot found nothing. Ad-Aware found a whole bunch (after I followed your setup instructions) which I also deleted. Below is my latest HJT scan.

Im no expert in reading the hjt log but I do see a rundll.exe in your running programs. You might still have somthing in there. Not to step on anyones shoes but this program is much better than adaware finds alot more stuff. Download it update it's definitions and run it on all drives. It's only trial but it is fully funtional for thirty days. But I wont attempt to tell you what to checkin the hjt log but what ever this program finds get rid of it.

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

How to see Hidden files and Folders

reboot into safe mode

How to boot into safe mode

delete

this file

C:\WINDOWS\System32\bstgwtie.exe
C:\WINDOWS\emsw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\FCD30M.exe

these folders

C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking

then go to C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Local Settings\Temp and select everything in that folder and delete it

as XP will not let you delete files less than 24 hours old as it thinks it might need them please also do this
while in the temp folder, select view and select details.
then right click a blank part and select arrange icons by, and select show in groups and modified, that will give a list of all files in date order with today at the top of the page.
select all the files/folders except the today ones and delete them all.

1) Open Control Panel
2) Click on Internet Options
3) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
4) You may also want to check the box "Delete all offline content"
5) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the temporary internet files
6) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that websites have placed on your hard drive

empty your recyle bin
reboot to normal
