Can you tell me why I'm getting these strange () items mixed in with regular words in the text in some (not all) of my programs? (see sample)*

Hello jaeros,

Do you mean in the text of some files such as Word, e-mail etc. and perhaps appearing on webpages?

I found this when I copy/pasted from a Word 2007 document into one of these text boxes like I'm typing in now. When posted, here's what it showed:

...backup copy of the floppy to use €œjust in case€.

I found that this didn't work with just copying the text snippet - rather I had to copy the entire document and poste it in before the strange characters would show.

The €œ is the " before the actual quote
The € is the " after the actual quote
The €™ is the ' mark.

Dunno why your computer is doing this - although there was an infection recently that would do something similar. I'd suggest scanning for malware with this free, online scan: http://safety.live.com
