Building another computer for a friend. Mobo is Abit NF7. When I turned it on it keeps beeping every few seconds. The cause of this is??? To my knowledge everything is plugged in correctly. Thank you in advance for any help.

I'm not sure exactly, but it seems like the POST is active.

POST = Power On Self Test

It occurs when you start the computer.
Precisely before the BIOS initiates the procedure
needed to load the OS.

some info

The beeps have certain codes, depending on what the
particular cause might be.

With EVERYTHING in place, hardware & software,
this happens each time you turn your PC on:
  • steps involved: (simply)
  • POST
  • BIOS
  • OS load (welcome screen)
  • LOGON
  • Desktop
  • Boot initialization (boot .ini) completes
  • Full functioning of the OS available
  • takes a period of time, faster is more desirable, usually
Your stage of completion in building is "no OS loaded yet"?

OK

Then, what is put together is probably telling you something involving

POST
or
BIOS

only.

They are part of the mobo itself.

POST basically identifies and verifys that all power connections are good.
BIOS basically can be configured to load the OS (when you get to that)
in ways that are right for you and your system.

The best source for exact information is the USER's Guide.

The manufacturer of the mainboard website is also a great place to check
for details regarding installation irregularities.

ABIT home site

I notice there are several different Abit NF7's.

So beeping every few seconds is okay then. Good, thought I did something wrong! Whew. Thank you again so very much.
