Shutdown Problem- Can Anyone Help Please

Recently when I shut down I do not get the -logging off -saving your settings screens. My computer just goes to the windows xp screen and shuts down.
Does anyone know how to restore to normal shutdown please. I have tried putting most settings to default without succcess.

My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

Thanks but none of these seem to apply to my problem. I don't get blue screen or my computer restarting itself and it does shut down so maybe everything is working ok. I was mainly concerned that my settings were not being saved
