I need help with this se.dll virus. Ive been working on it for hours, your my last resort. when I open IE or Norton to do a virus scan this error message comes up:

Title: RUNDLL
Message:Error loading C:\DOCUMEN~1\USER\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll
The specified module could not be found.

Then Norton tells me the virus, Trojan.StartPage, was found and deleted. I've followed the removal instructions symantec posted but still didnt work.

Heres the log:

Hi.

Please download and install the program Registrar Lite from here:

http://www.resplendence.com/reglite

Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under programs portion of the Start Menu.

Once it is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

And press enter. You will now be presented with new information in the bottom right and left sections and on the right section, the name AppInit_DLLs should be highlighted. Double-click on the AppInit_DLLs entry and copy and paste the text found in the value field in your next reply to this post.

ok. I followed all of your instructions and found Applnit_DLLs in the path you specified. It was not highlighted like you said it should be but it was still there. I double clicked it and the value field was empty. The data editor just contained the followiong: keyname (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows), value name (Applnit_DLLs ), the type (REG_SZ), Type # (00000001), and the size (1). What do I do next?

Your log looks good. I do have one question. Did you install the following program?

SearchByMedia
C:\Program Files\vci\SearchByMedia\SBMPop.exe

I can't find a lot of information about the file or what the program does for that matter.

Personally, I don't think it's good. I can barely find info about it. If you can ask your buddy and let me know we can put this thread to bed.

Check your Add/Remove programs panel first. See if the program is listed there. If not, we'll use hijackthis to remove it.

If you can't remove the program via Add/Remove programs panel. Ctrl+Alt+Delete once and end the following task
C:\Program Files\vci\SearchByMedia\SBMPop.exe

Close any running programs, run Hijackthis and place a check next to the following.

O4 - Global Startup: SBMPop.lnk = C:\Program Files\vci\SearchByMedia\SBMPop.exe

close all your internet browsers and click fix in hijackthis.

Now locate the following folder and delete it.

Folder:
C:\Program Files\vci\SearchByMedia

Once complete post a fresh Hijackthis log in your thread.
