whenever i close a window for any program no matter if
it is an instance of internet explorer, my alarm clock program,
or ventrilo, the program continues to run in the background
and it is causing serious issues with the speed at which
my computer runs. i have to used task manager to
stop listening to music or to anything for that matter.
please help!

This is an odd situation. I've seen it a few times, but it was malware related.
Post a Hijack this log by following the instructions here:
