I am running windows xp home, i was going through and uinstalling unused programs and was wondering what a few programs were that i didn't recognize.

Browser Address Error Redirector

My Websearch(cursor mania)

Then I was wondering if it is okay to uninstall the following:

Microsoft Digital Image Starter Edition 2006-----this came with the computer, I haven't ever used it but I'm sure it is like all the other microsoft programs that came with the computer, a trial version. can i uninstall this, it is taking up 133 MB of room

Microsoft Works----Another program that came with the computer as a trial but I never use. 266 MB

SBC Yahoo Applications----I used to be with AT&T, when they sent me the CD with their program on it which I installed. I am pretty sure that this is some trash left over but want to make sure it isn't part of something bigger, 35.99 MB

Then in my temp file, there is one file that will not delete and I have tried multiple programs that promise to be able to deliver, i've tried everything. All I want to know if it is a harmful file. BCG2.TMP

While I am here, I know that this is not the right forum but I don't want to leave a lot of threads open, when AVG quarantines infected files, do i need to remove them?

AVG quarantines stuff so that it won't hurt your system. If you're sure that you don't need them, then feel free to delete them.

It depends upon who installed the Browser Address Error Redirector - and if the Windows one is still in place. It's a handy tool to have when you reach an error on a web page.

IMO it's safe to uninstall all the rest.

As for the BCG2.TMP file, submit it to this site for analysis: http://virusscan.jotti.org/ and see what it says. There's other ways to get rid of it - but depending on it's size (let us know that also) it may be easier to just leave it there (if it's harmless).
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

It wont let me submit the file, it says that it is either part of the firewall or malware that will not allow it to upload. what other ways can you go about deleting it. this is what i have tried.

I guess i will check out the tips and tricks part and see if i missed anything.

If it doesn't let you submit the file, check the box that says "Send over SSL", hopefully it will work.

Also, uninstall MyWebSearch, it is known adware (even though you do get the crappy cursors that you wanted).

Since MoNsTeReNeRgY22 is a member of our HJT Team, I'd suggest following their advice and posting a new logfile.

You can download Process Explorer v11.13 from Microsoft here. After extracting and running the program, you can select Find then Find Handle/DLL at the menu bar and then type in BCG2.tmp and hit Search and it will show you what program it is running for. In my case, and what drove me to find this forum page today and spend 10 minutes of my life signing up so that I can help you, BCG3.tmp was running with my Capture.exe program, which is !Quick Screen Capture. It's probably not a virus, there are often things in your temp folders that cannot be deleted because a program is using them and I'm really glad I could help all these other people who answered your question too because you think this would be common knowledge.

@ milliner99

We thank you for your contribution. However this member is being helped in the HJT forum and does in fact have a malware problem. This thread is also over 3 months old and likely was not a relevant topic, to be responding to currently.

Since this member is being helped by a Malware specialist, this topic is closed.
