Hi,

I'm new in this forum and this is my first post. I hope you can help me.

I have a very stubborn problem going on for weeks now.
Trust me I've been in many many forums and in Microsoft Knowledge Base and read about many solutions but nothing seems to work. I have done also a windows repair installation to no avail either.
The spooler won't start giving me error 1058.
However, this is what seems to differ from similar posts for what I can tell or at least I haven't encountered any post mentioning it:
In Services, if I double click the print spooler service to access the properties, it gives me another error before opening the properties box and it says:
Configuration Manager: "The specified device ID is not a valid device ID" Then the properties box opens ok. But in the Logon tab the hardware profiles listing is missing

The repair installation fixed some other problems I had such as not being able to boot in safe mode and the system restore not working. This is ok now but the spooler error hasn't gone away. My machine is clean of viruses and malware, I'm using ESET Smart Security and Spybot SD.
There are no printers installed including pdf generators and to the best of my ablity I removed all traces from the registry using different advice from many other forums.

Your expert help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Sometimes this works. Uninstall the printer port then reinstall. (Even if its USB) When reinstalling make sure to let windows connect to the internet for the best possible driver update. Also insure that you have the lastest board drivers for your MB.

How do you do that. Do I have to uninstall all USB ports? I dont have any printers installed.

Was a printer ever installed on this machine? Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and look for anything related to a printer , scanner, or fax and check the box and run it.
**note: do not use this application on Windows Office programs**
I'm assuming you've already looked in Device Manager for yellow exclamation points.
