Not sure if btcar is a virus or a hijacker of some type however it seems to take over links in google search and takes you to an adult oriented type of site however I noticed if I click on link then go back and click again then go back and click again for the 3rd time it takes me to the desired link/site I was clicking on...Ive been reading these forums and Ive tried to follow the steps on how to contain/remove this thing...Ive downloaded spybot and adaware and did the scans which helps...(I knew about and used both programs in the past)

I think this hijacker came from limewire or something...the kids in the house use limewire however I usually let them download it for the day and get what songs they want then I uninstall limewire then i remove the files/folders from the computer...I usually just download limewire for the kids every month or so...I hate that limewire program and i dont use it because it takes over the computer it seems.

Anyway i downloaded hijackthis and here is what I have...thanks in advance and Im sure you guys see this a lot on thses forums...this is my first post and it wont be my last im sure...hate asking for help on my first post...I have other computer issues as well regarding not being able to send email through outlook and what not...most of these problems came after downloading IE7 however I wont get into that right now.

Hello by the way...

I wasnt sure how to edit my first post...i looked for an edit button but didnt see one...I dumped 6 programs since I posted my first highjack this log however here is the newer updated one after 6 programs were removed.

EDITED:The first post didnt have an edit button however this post does...if a mod can edit the first post and remove that log so its less confusing would be great...thanks

Hi,

Looks like you have at least 2 infections..

1 that replaces your startup files with infected versions then moves the legit files to child folders ... (which may be why several programs don't work right)

The other one causes your computer to access malicious DNS Servers rather than your ISP's. this is why you get re-directed to adult and other garbage sites.

------------------
1.a) Please disable your TeaTimer so it does not interfere with fixes. You can enabkle it again once clean.

To disable SpybotSD TeaTimer:

1.) Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
2.) Check yes to next window.
3.) Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
4.) Click on System Startup icon.
5.) Uncheck Teatimer box.
6.) Click Allow Change box.

You can follow this link if you need help: http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

1.b ) Download this file and save it to the desktop:
http://downloads.subratam.org/ResetTeaTimer.bat

once saved double click it and let it run.
It will flash up "dos" box then dissapear. Normal.
This "reset teatimer to clear previously allowed/denied entries.
Once you turn it back on -- you will have to grant programs permission again to allow running at boot.

2.) You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Open the your root folder (usualy c) c:\fixwareout\report.txt and
post it in reply here along with a new hijackthis log.

2.) Download FindAWF from here and save it to the desktop:

http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/FindAWF.exe

Double-click the FindAWF icon.

If a Security Alert shows, allow the program to run.
As instructed, press any key to continue.
Use the following option: Press 1 then Enter to scan for bak folders
The scan may take a while, please be patient.

When done, a text file, Find AWF report is produced that we need to look at.
Post the contents of log here please.

Logs needed:

Log from FindAWF
new Hijackthis log
c:\fixwareout\report.txt

thanks

Note: Please be really careful where you surf. The one trojan lowers your IE security settings so malicious sites can do whatever they want to your computer without you being prompted.

This entry:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

That was put there when you installed Windows Live Messenger. No harm.
I'll have an order of massive trojan attack please with a side order of rootkit and virus dip.
Pre-course order of fresh spyware salad please with a side order of polymorphic dressing.
And to drink...a nice tall glass of adware!

For dessert; can I have a bowl of the freshest worms you have please?.

Never Give Up!

Hi,

Link works for me OK. Possible site was temporarily offline.
I'll attach the file to my post.
Download it, save it, then unzip it.
Run it as instructed in previous post please.

Let me know if there is any more problems.

Thanks

Just wanted to say that google links are working properly for now...hopefully it will stay that way.

I will wait for your reply however everything looks to be in working order now.

I only have a few bucks in my paypal account however I will donate at least $5 to you...I know its not much however its better than nothing I guess.

I was wondering about spybot though...should i go back and re check teatimer...thanks again.

Hi,

Not sure why TeaTimer Reset didn't work.
Likely best to just uninstall Spybot.
You can re-install it when finished the below.

Let's clean up the leftovers first.

Start Hijackthis
run system scan only and check:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - (no file)
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{3C2D3CCF-778E-4C1D-A916-3F772EFD597E}: NameServer = 208.67.220.220,208.67.222.222
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.115.70 85.255.112.189
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{364F274D-451E-4478-9309-2C4C707EAD17}: NameServer = 85.255.115.70,85.255.112.189
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 208.67.220.220,208.67.222.222
O17 - HKLM\System\CS3\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 208.67.220.220,208.67.222.222
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 208.67.220.220,208.67.222.222
O20 - AppInit_DLLs:

close all open windows and click "fix checked"
Say OK & exit Hijackthis

Double-click the FindAWF icon once again

If a Security Alert shows, allow the program to run.
As instructed, press any key to continue.
Use the following option: Press 4 then Enter to reset domain zones

This removes all entries from the domain zones.
When the program returns to the main menu, use the following option:
Press E then Enter to EXIT

Reboot

Post new hijackthis log please.

Now you can go ahead and re-install Spybot & activate TeaTimer.
You will need to OK the items you OKed before again.

Let me know how system is running.

thanks
I'll have an order of massive trojan attack please with a side order of rootkit and virus dip.

Hi,

Welcome back

Log looks good. How is the system running now?

let's get an antivirus installed then you can install your Spybot S & D.

Few freebie but goodie antivirus programs to choose from. All are good but only install one please to prevent conflicts.

Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
Tutorial:

AVG:

AntiVir:

I recommend installing a 3rd party firewall too.
XP has one but it does not monitor outgoing traffic well.

Few freebie choices: (install only one and make sure the XP one is off to prevent conflict)

Zone Alarm free:
http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/cat...=US&lang=en
PDF documention for Zone Alarm available here:

Post fresh hijackthis log when you get those installed please.
Let me know if things are still running good.
