It is cheaper and easier to buy a brand new Hard Drive than throw a complete system out of the window. That way you have a clean drive to start with, well sort of clean anyway.

What you are Probably referring to is "Sophos Fast Purge" or just "Purge". this is a program that is VERY Hard to come by. you might find traces for it on personal websites. they (Sophos) also made a program called "Sophos Fast Shred" or just "Shred". also a program hard to find but this one only did files not a whole drive.

Either way these files have either been integrated into the Anti-Virus program by Sophos or another suit they make, or it was discovered that it wasn't a hot product so they trashed the Idea. all i know is its quite difficult to find it or even read about it.

I can Suggest Active@ Kill Disk Free. this will low-level format your Hard drive. if there is anything left after this take a hammer to the drive and buy a new one!

Another one is Wipedrive by WhiteCanyon. this one cost Money $40-100+ Rounded depends on how you use it.

When you format use the /u switch as in format /u

This will give you an unconditional format that wipes clean.

You can usually get a utility from the hard drive manufacturer also. Check the website.

Question????

WHY would you not be content with a Normal full drive format.....????

It takes a specialist to understand the gibberish left after a full format, and if you dont intend to let a specialist play, then dont worry.

Actually, it is a lot easier to just spray your hard drive with hair spray. Cheaper than Steel Toe Caps, same result!!!!

SaxonManFinland: If you feel that way, i'm not claiming to be a specialist in the least. but send me your harddrive you formated and give me about 15 minutes to an hour, and i'll find your hidden porn. =) J/K (About your Porn)

Me Personally i probably format one of my 21 hard drives at least once a month.
I like to use the Debug Routine

SaxonManFinland: Enlighten me as to what exactly hair spray does?
And Steel-Toe Boots = More Fun!

When you format and then reinstall Windows it will in effect "undelete" the registry and reuse previous settings. In order to prevent that I use format /u (unconditional).

Dear Peeps :trumpet: :flowers:  I stand corrected and enlightened. That is the beauty of people with greater knowledge. I can learn from them. I didnt know that about reinstallation.

Does that mean in theory then bugs can remain on a system after a full format and re-install???

BUT, I think you read between the lines!!! I was wondering why anyone would want an absolute clean drive, maybe I am nieve!!!

If you can get a fine mist of Hair spray into you drive, then it will take just 1 little bit to get between the head and plattern and you just killed the drive.........unless technology now allows a huge gap between the disc surface and the floating heads. YES I know they are sealed!!! but where there is a will, there is a way. My experience of this is in Berlin where the Operator put her make up on in the "Drive Room". Interesting few days replacing all those drives, but then they were rather large things not the little toys we have today. Each drive had 16 heads. Woooo This is showing my age !!!!!!

Oh I guarrante you would not find my porn files if I sent you my drive for 2 weeks and whilst not a specialist you have a far greater knowledge that the Average Bear :inlove:

:)
