hi... there are several files that I would like to remove but I am not sure how to get at them.. hijack this does not seem to be useful at all.. I have tried other programs as well. Is there not some way i can just go through deep reg and manually remove? only problem is that i do not know how to tell what is what... any advice would be appreciated.
thankyou

Hijackthis in itself is not a spyware removal tool. It is a tool that enumerates certain settings and allows us to remove them.

Please do the following before we clean up the log:

Your log shows that you are seriously behind on windows updates. It is essential that you update your windows before we continue to help you as the infections could reoccur. Go to http://www.windowsupdate.com and if it asks to install software, let it. Then click on the Scan link and let it do its thing. When its done you will see on your left a section called critical updates. Click on that section and install everything that you can. When it prompts you to reboot, do so. Then repeat this process again until there are no more critical updates listed. Then post a new log.

Hi, I have been updating and updating and today along with some of the last updates came problems with the desktop icons not allowing me to move them and the absence of taskbars for windows. I read up as much as I could and found others with similar problems and most of them attributed the problems to xp updates. one person said the last update had deleted something out of his registry. There are still a few more updates for me I believe but I would like to sort all of this out before I continue. I am about ready to toss the tower over the balcony hehe..but not before i hear your thougts. Thank you for your time--

here is log:

I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode and delete the following files:

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)
C:\Program Files\TV Media\
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ddemyl.dll
c:\installer\
C:\WINDOWS\System32\imdhgg.exe

Disable System Restore. You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

or

Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log.

I followed your directions. TvMedia would not be deleted while in safemode and installer was not there. however, I deleted the others and closed the windows when a message came up saying 'files that are required for windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions' it wanted to restore original versions and asked for the xp cd. I hit cancel and said yes when it asked if I was sure I wanted to keep the unrecognized file versions. System restore was already off so I turned it on and the message came again but I just rebooted to post the new log... perhaps I should clear the system out completely and start over again.. thanks again for the help and look foward to your reply

Fix these:

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

Reboot into safe mode and delete the following:
C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll
C:\Program Files\TV Media\
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe

If you try to delete tv media and you cant. Right click on the folder and go into properties. Does it have read-only check on it? If so remove it and delete again. Then go into the folder and try deleting the individual files. See if that can bedone. If it can be done, empty recycle bin and reboot and then delete the folder.

If you can delete any of the files. Right click on the folder and click on properties. Then click on security and click on advanced. Then click on the owner tab and take ownership with your username for that folder. Put a checkmark on replace owner on subcontainers and objects. Then Press ok until you are out.

Then try deleteing it
