When I want to close down my dial up pops up and then a box with squares going along the bottom which will not let me clos the computer until it reaches the end and says end now then the computer will close properly. Is there anything I can do to stop this happening?

Who's your ISP?

Are you connected to the Internet when this happens?

You might want to check the IE settings. Open your Internet Explorer and open a tab name "Tools"

:flowers: From tools go to internet options.
 Watch over the settings under "Choose setting if you need to configure..."
:trumpet: I think, it might be set to "Dial whenever connection is not present", change it to "Never dial a connection"

Hope that might help. Good luck :inlove:

Hi heckum,

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I think that the box that you are talking about 'popping' up when you try to shut down your PC is a notice that some program is not responding. Doesn't it give you two options on the bottom right of that box? One option should be "End Now" and the other should be "Cancel".

If that's right try read what it says at the top of that box the next time that it happens, that'll tell you which program has stopped responding, and post that information here.

I've had it happen with Internet Explorer, SpyBot, a2antidialer and a couple more programs. After you click the "End Now" button don't you get a message saying that you have chosen to end a non responsive program and asking if you would like to submit a report to Microsoft?

Good Luck,
