Hi this is my first post here so if I'm doing something wrong I apologize. My problem is my computer is definatly infected with a virus. The virus i'm sure of is I clicked on Aim link "NEW PICS FROM THE BEACH http//www.ascending-thoughts.net/photos.pif :-) !!!" or something simalir in my friends away message. I've been looking on the web for ways to get rid of it and this is what i've done so far.
I've updated and run the following programs (in safemode and normal mode): Ad-Aware, Spybot, Norton Antivirus, Highjackthis, and diskeeper lite. Ad-aware/spybot found spyware that I deleted. Norton did find a virus which i quaratined and deleted but that didn't seem to fix my aim problem. Also based on advice i got from other sites I went to spybot tools/processes, "kill"ed the AOLCLIENT.EXE and deleted is from it's folder but it keeps coming back. I've run highjackthis and it gave me a report but I have no clue what it means which is why i've come here...Here is the report

Well i know how to make the aolclient.exe inactive (I go to spybot, tools, processes, and "kill" aolclient" then I delete the aolclient.exe from C:/windows/prefetch)and then it doesn't bother me while i'm using my computer but anytime i restart my computer it comes back and I have to repeat the steps above. I have already gone to msconfig and deselected aolclient.exe but it starts up again anyway. I'd like to know how to get rid of it permantly and see if i have any other viruses that might be affecting my computer. Heres the new log

Please uninstall Viewpoint Media Player from Add\Remove Programs.
Removing Viewpoint Media Player may cause the program that bundled it to not function as intended.
About Viewpoint Media Player.

1. Download and save PeperFix.
REBOOT in SafeMode: Starting your computer in Safe mode, use the F8 method,
and run the program.
It will remove the files, leaving one orphaned entry to be cleaned up with Hijack this.

2. REBOOT again into SafeMode and run it again for good measure.

3. REBOOT normally.

Some items are disabled in MSCONFIG, and not all your startup items are visible.
Go to Start -> Run -> Type msconfig and press Enter.

Click the Startup tab and check all Startup items or press the Enable All button and Close. Then press the Exit without restart button. Do not reboot your computer.

Run HijackThis and post a new log please.
Everyday is virus day. Do you know where your recovery CDs are ?

what are peper files

Peper is a trojan.

Please Download LSPFix from:
LSP-Fix. Use this program only if you can not connect to the Internet after removing Webhancer.

Follow these steps to remove Webhancer:
A. Go to Start -> Control Panel.
B. Uninstall Webhancer from Add/Remove Programs

If you can not connect to the Internet after removing Webhancer, please run the LSP-Fix program I had you download earlier, and click on the finish button.

Reboot your machine.

You are using Kazaa. This is not technically malware by itself, but it installs malware in order to run properly and it opens the door for every other nasty program you can think of. I strongly recommend that you remove it. Read this article for alternatives that will provide some of the same function without the garbage: http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/ If you opt to remove it, first use Add/Remove Program to remove it and any reference to Altnet and P2P Networking. Go to your control panel, then to add/remove programs...uninstall P2P networking...If/when asked whether you also want to remove Altnet components, say 'Yes'.
P2P Networking is a totally useless Kazaa add-on, and it's been reported to be responsible for serious system slowdowns.

Plase uninstall from Add\Remove Programs:
Delfin Media Viewer / Promulgate

You are running HijackThis from a temp folder. You will need to move hijackthis.exe to a permanent folder, such as c:\hjt . This has to be done as HijackThis creates backups when you fix items. These backups could easily get deleted in a temporary folder.

First create a new folder:
A. Click My Computer icon on your desktop
B. Click C: drive
C. Click the File menu --> New --> Folder, a folder "New folder" will be created.
D. Rename it HJT

Unzip hijackthis.exe to the c:\HJT folder.

Download System Security Suite here:
System Security Suite Download. Unzip it to your desktop. Install the program. Don't use it yet.

Please print or copy these instructions because you are not able to access the Internet in SafeMode.

Make sure you are set to show hidden files and folders:
A. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
B. Click the View tab.
C. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
D. Uncheck Hide extensions for known filetypes and Hide protected operating system files.
How to see hidden files in Windows

REBOOT into SafeMode by tapping F8 key repeatedly at bootup: Starting your computer in Safe mode

Run HijackThis!, press Scan, and put a check mark next to all these:

This is a registration reminder that is used by a number of different companies. It is not needed and some experts think that it reports back to the company about your computer, so I suggest fixing it...

I have a problem none of these programs (Webhancer, Kazaa, Altnet and P2P Networking, Delfin Media Viewer / Promulgate) are showing up on my add/remove list. And the thing is i know i've tried to remove them in the past but maybe they didn't remove fully or something. I'm doing a search right now for all of them to see what i can find. I'm just not sure if i should follow the rest of the steps without removing these first.
