I have noticed something unusual on my computer. For some strange reason when I use certain applications they disappear. Like say I'll launch Firefox. Runs smoothly then it disappears. I check in task manager its still running and the process is still running. But Its happeneing with other things to.
  • Hijack This
  • Opera
  • Windows Media Player
  • Windows Messenger (Don't use it but still)
  • Firefox
  • CCleaner
  • Super Anti Spyware
  • LimeWire (No lesctures on P2P thank you)
  • And folders (yes, my folders disappear too)
I read a topic that was similar to this but isn't exactly the same problem I think.
There is one relation though. It doesn't happen with IE7 but it did with IE6 (this is going back over a year ago since I had IE6)
However. A while ago when I first installed CCleaner this would happen with IE7 but I assumed it was just a bug with that version. But since the newer version it doesn't happen with it.

I know it isn't malware related. Because my system is clean.
But, that being said. Could it be malware that hasn't been found? Because I only just recently found malware that was disabling my security center- but that was just remains of an old malware issue

Heres a few System Specs if it makes it easier to troubleshoot whats going on:
Windows XP pro. Service pack 2
576 MB RAM
Pentium 4 CPU

I appreciate any help I can get. And I mean any because this is really starting to grind my gears.

If...big word there...if you really have anything that disappears from your system...you probably have an infection or a hard drive that is in the process of failing...or a CMOS battery that's failing...or other causes which I cannot think of at this moment.

I would start trying to eliminate suspects, if it were me.

I don't think I'm being quiet clear-
They aren't disappearing they just go away untill I go into task manager and double click them.

By the way.. Thats all I need right now is my hard drive to fail
I'm going to do a few scans. See what I can dig up.

Wish me luck people :flowers:

I scanned with (in this order) Super Anti Spyware.
Spybot S&D
AVAST

No infections.

Could this be something beyond malware?
